Says he’s Christian

Wow! He doesn’t have the time for something of this magnitude, not even when it’s someone he has described as a friend of his? Is the flock naive enough to take his words at face value? Give me a break!

Focus on the Family founder James Dobson on Tuesday backed out of joining a panel of evangelical leaders responsible for further investigating and counseling fallen evangelical leader Ted Haggard.

“It is with great regret – and after much prayer and discussion with friends and family – that I have had to reconsider my involvement in the panel overseeing Ted’s restoration,” Dobson said in a statement. “Emotionally and spiritually, I wanted to be of help – but the reality is I don’t have the time to devote to such a critical responsibility.”

By “after much prayer,” I take it that God told him not to help Ted.

Oh.. and he’s still blaming the media for everything:

“You know, the media is just salivating out there, it seems, over yet another example of what they see as hypocrisy.” (Focus on the Family Broadcast, November 6).

What’s your point? Everything written on this blog is very derogatory about Haggard.

A little different. Communism is a political view, Homosexuality is a morality issue. They relate to different areas of the brain. Take the gay thing out of it and just say Sexual sin. Someone can be very pro marriage and still screw up and have an affair. Temptation is very strong in different areas for many people. That doesn’t mean that they agree with what they do, it just means that they struggle with resisting it.

I don’t think that you can say that Ted Haggard is gay. He confessed to sexual immorality but said that he did not have sex with the man. He resigned from his position as a pastor and leader because he felt that he could no longer hold a position of trust, when he had made these mistakes. If it had been anyone else you would be shouting about what an upstanding guy they were and ask them to run for president (ie… Bill Clinton).

this is really no better than gossip.

Restoration reminds me of a room with a chair wired up to a helmet with wires and the switch set to “Christian Conservative”. Maybe a lobotomy would help keep him from slipping again. We all have free will and the choice to act good or evil. We are all responsible for our own actions.

You miss it again, which I suspect is on purpose.

Its the hypocrisy that makes it news. I could care less if he farts on his wife and they both like it. He’s getting dinged on his hypocrisy.

You insist on defending a hypocrite – fine – just admit it.

I don’t know what it is with you guys that make you think homosexuality is a choice of mindset. It’s like you grow up, goes through puberty, and when the time is right, you take your bible and you read:

“Hm, I’m an adult now. Let’s see what the bible says I should look for in a mate. OK. Hm, I’m a man….. Let me check……. Oooops, yeah, I’m a man alright. Well. Hm, seems like God tells me to go for girls. OK. That’s it. I like girls now. And girls only. And God forbid, not men, cause that’ll be the biggest sin EVER. So girls it is. And from now on girls are going to turn me on. And not men. Phew, thank God for the Bible, or else I wouldn’t have a clue what to look for.”
(And just to have said it; It would be the other way around for girls. As in “Bible tells me to look for, eh, hm, oh, uh. Oh yeah, right, a man”.)

Seriously, is this it? You just think your sexual preference is a choice? And with some guidance you’ll choose right? You got to be kidding.

I’m a heterosexual man, and I can assure you, I could not stomach a sexual affair with a man. It’s just the way I am, and nothing can change that.

And Haggard is not a heterosexual man. He might be bisexual, but chances are really good that he’s been a “good” christian gay guy all his life. Unfortunately the bible tells him he’s a bad bad boy, and should put his faith in god, pray and “get straight”. So he married and got kids, and kept the mask.
But it just doesn’t work that way. Ted Haggard is gay/bisexual. And he most likely fooled his wife into thinking he was straight.

And to top it all, he goes on a national crusade to condemn homosexuals. And probably have advised the Prez about this and other “important issues” also.
And that’s pretty much why this is so huge. He’s a hypocrite on a national if not international scale.

Personally, I think it puts the whole institutionalized religion in the right light. And it’s nothing derogatory here at all. He has admitted to the “affair” himself.

    35. “he most likely fooled his wife into thinking he was straight.”

He seems to have liked it by the number of children he had. Maybe he was fooling the gay guy into believing he was gay? For drugs or whatever reason.

“Bottom” line is that, given the right circumstances, people can be made to do anything.

If homosexuality was genetic, both pairs of 10% of all identical twins would be gay.

  7. RGB — “Born gay” and gay being genetic are not exactly the same thing. A lot of it has do with hormonal exposure during fetal development. The hardwiring of the brain is also quite fluid for the first two years.

  8. RBG says:

I see, like the hardwiring that creates the heart-ache of incorrigible children before their brains are “cooked” at 5 years old. We can only hope that someday science will be able to identify the things that influence this hardwiring.

Maybe Jimmy’s saying that a better example of hypocrisy is saying that you’re “pro-family” when what you are really in favor of is the subjugation and oppression of women in the home and the church so that you, as a male, can protect your power base and create a false biblical mandate for having half the human species at your service.

I think the quote is easily explained if you just look at it as Jimmy trying to be competitive with Haggard for who’s the biggest hypocrite.

Thanks for the input. Your point certainly gives a plausible possibility.

And sounds so much better than RBG who is in total denial of homosexuality. It’s hard to believe such a denial still exists, but faith is strong among many.

I would think Haggard is facing a rough 4 – 5 years as his “saviors” trying to rid him from his horrible self. Cheeeese, and I thought the middle ages were over 😉

  11. RBG says:

    40. Faith? Please don’t talk to me about faith when the evidence you cite is categorized as “plausible possibility.”

So are you ready to face all the homosexuals of the world and tell them their sexual preferences are nothing but an illusion and that they should just “change” their mind?
(Sorry, but I think you are out of your mind)

  13. RBG says:

Just as you are ready to face all the religious people of the world and tell them their religious preferences are nothing but an illusion and that they should just “change” their mind.

    OK. We’re both ready.
