Current browser stats on Dvorak Uncensored
Source — This is interesting.
Over the last year we have been bombarded with all sorts of overhyped figures of browser market share. With the latest release of Firefox 2.0 they are now claiming 2 million downloads in 24 hours.
Wow that sounds great until you do the math and realize that is only 0.18% of worldwide Internet users.
World Internet Usage: 1,086,250,903
Firefox 2 Downloads: 2,000,000Worldwide Percentage Using Firefox 2.0 = 0.18%
I know why…
Version 1.5 hasnt given anyone an update notice, to change over to 2.0
I feel so frickin’ exclusive! Paris Hilton, eat your heart out. Please.
Now, if somebody would update the plugins like Tab Mix Plus, TinyUrl Creator, BugMeNot…
I updated but the benefits are pretty small for me as an end-user. Maybe the developers will see more useful improvements. I never felt I had any problems with Firefox 1.x so if most people feel the same there won’t be a rush.
Total Firefox usage = 23+19+1+1= 44%
Total IE = 41+3 =44%
Dead heat!
I like the spell check it includes, but I hate tabs and they seem to have gotten worse… how do I disable them completely?
I have 2.0, it think it is great. And true they haven’t stated that the new firefox came out.
I updated, tried Bon Echo and then went back to 1.5. It still has too many bugs.
I agree with Raff, the built in spell-check is fantastic.
The version 3 beta is out and that is what I am using and it is pretty good too.
This stat assumes the only source of Firefox is Mozilla. What about the Firefox downloads using Torrent? Most of the downloads would be from each other. These would be unaccountable.
Of Bittorent, Bitcomet and Azureus I prefer Azureus for graphics and Bitcomet for speed.
Did they ever fix the memory leak bug? That thing eats up way too much system resources
I’m still using 1.5. It works well and my complaints are few and minor. I’ll let 2.0 alone until some ofr the bugs have been found out before I try it.
As for the spell check, I try to do my writing in Open Office then cut and paste. It is easier to see and correct typos as well as grammar and spelling.
my version of firefox 2.0 came pre-installed w/ ubuntu edgy eft, so i guess that would never be counted. that’s probably true of many other linux distros as well.
It’s nice being in that 7% of safari users when I’m at home.. because for some reason THIS IS THE ONLY SITE I VISIT ON THE INTERNET that that bottoms of pages are always getting chopped off.
Not that good a software. It’s too buggy, plus it has this problem coupled with my DSL router where some websites won’t load occasionally. Deleteing the browser cache doesnt change anything. It may just be a problem with the 2wire router though.
I haven’t gotten around to looking at v2, but I like the tabs the way they are and I don’t need a spell checker as I don’t make misteaks.
I am waiting until Portable Firefox 2.0 is released.
didn’t that say 2mil in 24 hours?
why is that news?
has downloading stopped? really people… can’t we see past one day?
never mind file sharing, unregistered mirrors and bundling.

Usually, if someone thinks Firefox is “buggy” — it means their Windoze box is stuffed full of spyware and similar crap in the way.
Oh wow… fun with maths.
Lets do that then…
0.18% in 24hrs
1.8% in 10 days
100% in 55 days 12hrs 30mins
Which means all users of the internet in less than 2 months.. if downloads kept up.
Aren’t stats fun? *rolls eyes*
whoops, dropped a zero somewhere. 555 days 12hrs.
So under 2 years. Little different! 😉 Still… that’s what I would consider pretty damn good.
Ubuntu hasn’t released it into update yet. I’ll get it when they do. I probably represent quite a few Ubuntu users.
#12 – I’m still using 1.5. It works well and my complaints are few and minor. I’ll let 2.0 alone until some ofr the bugs have been found out before I try it.
I’m using the same approach at work after seeing some minor bugs in 2.0 at home.
I’m using 2.0 and love it.
How do you pull those stats? Is it individual hits? A lot of ISPs do caching. So those ISP will do only one download and the rest will come out of it’s cache. And P2P networks do a lot of swaping too.
I just aggregated data from 5 sites I run for various companies and people. Two political blogs, one technology company and two industrial manufacturers. Pretty broad range of users, a total of about 175,000 uniques a day for all 5 combined.
IE: 49.53%
6: 88.9%
7: 9.09
Firefox: 43.74%
2.0: 48.97%
1.5.0.7: 45.29%
I’m not finding any bugs in 2.0, and it;s far more stable than 1.5. It also has better memory management.
I am unclear if this is just ver. 2 or all Firefox. I use both, some I just have not updated. Ver 2 did not break anything. I think I like the little closer x on each tab.
I will use anything non Microsoft due to upgrade path. Firefox is just the best browser I have ever used. I always go back to it.
Man on the street does not know or care about anything that is not Microsoft. He does not see the value of changing, even though he can now barely use his computer due to spyware, adware, and trojan/virus invasions. It seems computer savy people are still a very small minority.
downloaded it b4 it was officially released, being dyslexic the spell check is the best thing since sliced bread
Version 2.0 seems pretty good. The loading feels smoother. Tabs can be changed back using about:config > browser.tabs.closebuttons = 1 or 3. I’ve been fussing with it until I found Tab Mix Plus. You can use RC2 from the author’s website and it works just fine in Firefox 2.0.
I keep a copy of IE for the occasional web site that is IE only, but Firefox better than IE in everyday I’ve used it. 2.0 is really great.
So, here’s the question: Why aren’t most people using Firefox since it’s free and better?
Answer: Because Microsoft misuses their monopoly to suppress competition.
Question: Why hasn’t the government done anything about this abuse?
Answer: Under Democrat leadership, they did. The GOP got total control of the government and and killed all reform.
Point: VOTE THE BUMS OUT NEXT WEEK!
I have both Firefox 2.0 and IE7.
I use Firefox for a bunch of stuff like MySpace cause it blocks certain plugins and I like the extensions better.
I had the RC3 for Firefox but things weren’t working. Thankfully 2.0 fixed all those problems.
As tech savy as I am I wish AOL would allow you to pick a browser to use instead of forcing IE in their software. I’d use Firefox in AOL if I could.
I think the numbers for Firefox will grow and we all know the tech people will use Firefox more.
