Xinhua – English — You do know that wild boar is delicious, right? Let’s get shooting.

Wild pigs were found to be the source of deadly E-coli bacteria in spinach, responsibe for E. Coli outbreak that killed three people and sickening more than 200 others in U.S., according to investigators Thursday.

Six new samples of toxic E. coli bacteria matching the strain in tainted spinach have been found on a California ranch.

The ranch is in the area of Monterey and San Benito counties, among California’s most productive agricultural regions and top producers of fresh, bagged spinach.

Four of the new matching samples were traced to cattle on the same ranch and the other two new matching samples were traced to a creek and a wild pig killed on the property, said Dr. Kevin Reilly of the California Department of Health Services.

We have wild boar living here – it’s not unusual to meet one in the village streets at night in the winter when they come down from the mountains looking for food. And yes, they’re delicious when roast. Never heard of anyone here getting ill from spinach, though.

Sure …. the pigs did it. How convenient that a billion dollar corporation who stands to lose it all can blame it on something that can’t defend itself. I wonder how many officials got paid off to look the other way on that one?

Let’s kill all the wild pigs will be the next *logical* step of course, and the next time something like this happens I’m sure it will be the fault of some illegal Mexican worker, or a “controls operator” who had too much to drink, or a temporary worker who wasn’t fully trained, or …..

I’ve eaten wild boar, at a German restaurant. It tastes slightly different from regular pork – it is kind of half way between pork and beef.

We have Havalina, very similer to wild boar. It’s partially protected, only the native indians may kill them for food. Though a very few permits are issued for a controled season.
We have them all over at the base of the mountains on our ranch. I used to spot them from the rocks above the small water holes. They are cool.

  14. Wild man says:

Most people do not like wild pigs or even eat them. I am a pig hunter and make the most of into food when I killed them. If you have unwanted pigs or know anyone in central or northern California, let me know and I will be more than happy to get rid of…
