Reuters Business News: Air America Radio files for Chapter 11 bankruptcy – MSN Money — Apparently these guys were losing more money than a dot.com in the heyday!
NEW YORK (Reuters) – Air America Radio, the liberal news and talk radio network whose on-air talent includes comedian Al Franken, on Friday filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection after talks with a creditor broke down.
The network said it plans to stay on the air while it reorganizes. In a filing with the U.S. bankruptcy court in Manhattan, Air America said it lost about $40.9 million since the spring of 2004, including $13.1 million so far in 2006.

So what is the issue here? A charity lent Air America money. Your link is 15 months old, so why have no charges been laid against Air America since? Wait, wait, don’t tell me. Its Hillery’s fault? Right? Because a corporate failure couldn’t happen any other way.

Air America has run into the same problem that most radio has. Declining numbers and a very tight market. Fewer and fewer listeners tune in except during drive time and shut ins. And drivers prefer music and shut ins usually prefer right wingnut broadcasters that blame their plight on liberals. I have never listened to Air America simply because I can’t receive it.
With most television and radio now owned by large companies, they are broadcasting one show on hundreds of stations. Air America couldn’t find enough stations to carry their broadcasts. Why, if you own Clear Channel, would you broadcast programming urging the breakup of your business plan?
