CNet and McAfee execs step down amid stock-options scandal — This situation widens in Silicon Valley. Amazing. The shame of it is that Bonnie was the founder of CNet. Exactly why he is quitting mystifies me.
The top executives at Cnet Networks and McAfee Inc. stepped down today amid a widening stock-options backdating scandal.
Shelby Bonnie, chairman, CEO and co-founder of San Francisco’s Cnet, resigned, along with the company’s general counsel and head of human resources. Neil Ashe, an executive vice president, will take over as CEO. Jarl Mohn, an existing board member, will be non-executive chairman of the board.
At McAfee, George Samenuk stepped down as chairman and CEO, while President Kevin Weiss was fired by the board. Board member Dale Fuller, former CEO of Borland Software Corp., will serve as interim CEO and president.
Greed… as usual…
VirusScan betrayed them.
Usually execs fight like cornered cats before stepping down (witness HP, not to mention our hero denny hastert). This must be pretty freakin’ serious if these guys are voluntarily leaving the gravy train.
That this is happening after the corporate scandals, Wall Street scandals, and dot-com and telecom busts makes it that much more incredible. These people have no shame.
