No chance to hide behind bubba!

Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, in town for a fund-raiser for Sen. Rick Santorum, had a close encounter with a large group of anti-Republican protesters as he was making his way to the Duquesne Club, Downtown.

It was about 4:15 yesterday when Mr. Bush met up with the protesters near the corner of Liberty and Sixth avenues. The protesters were marching to join other pickets already gathered in front of the exclusive club, a little more than a block away at 325 Sixth Ave.

Protesters said Gov. Bush blew them a kiss, acknowledging the crowd of about 30 chanting pickets that was made up of United Steelworkers and members of Uprise Counter Recruitment, a tour traveling through 22 cities to support anti-war efforts.

Mr. Bush, accompanied by a security guard and a female aide, made a slow retreat toward the T-station at Wood Street.

“He was quickly getting out of the way and not wanting to engage us,” said Jon Vandenburgh, one of the protesters, who also is a researcher for the United Steelworkers.

Once in the subway station, Mr. Bush scurried to the escalators and descended to the mezzanine level, Mr. Vandenburgh said.

By now, Mr. Bush was cornered. He was surrounded by signs that said “Pittsburgh is a Santorum Free Zone,” “Honk if you’re sick of Rick,” and a crowd growing increasingly louder, according to Mr. Vandenburgh.

Mr. Grove said a Port Authority canine unit was called in to help with crowd control. Two officers used their tasers to stun two protesters who “were asked to leave, but did not go,” Mr. Grove said.

“It was a very tense situation. They were very close to the governor and shouting on top of him.”

As a precaution, the governor was ushered into a T-station supply closet and stayed there until the crowd left.

No arrests were made and no citations were issued, Mr. Grove said. Mr. Bush was not injured.

I guess he didn’t have enough room to cut and run!

I guess brains skipped a generation in the Bush family. I wouldn’t give the Bush brothers a job sweeping floors because they would screw it up.

  2. prophet says:

Wow…I guess he is going to be thrown out of the Republican party for going in the closet. Was there a page in there?

Who knows… Jeb Bush for President? 2012? 2016? Third Time is the Charm… 😉

  4. Noname says:

The Bushies and Republican’s are in general (McCain is the exception) so so Arrogant and Self-Righteous they can’t stand the unwashed, or just can’t in a democratic, public setting honestly address the electorate concerns.

Obviously the only thing the Bushies and Republican’s feel the electorate is good for is to be unquestionably obedient battle fodder for their unnecessary war and politics. Ironically it appears the electorate thinks they should be unquestionably obedient battle fodder for their own war and politics (think all the grief the Republicans, Texans and their ilk are giving Cindy Sheehan)

It’s so Ironic while campaigning GW said Jesus was his favorite Philosopher, I can’t think of one recorded instance where Jesus hide from his detractors, not one.

It appears in practice Karl Rove and not Jesus is GW and the Christian Rights favorite Philosopher.

How fast do you think GW and the Christian Right would have sent Jesus to Gitmo if he came back and objected to this unnecessary, unproductive Duba=War.

All Duba does, is unholy acts on this country and it’s people, period.

  5. Mr. Fusion says:

I am more worried that the police used tasers as crowd control. I didn’t read anything about Bush being assaulted or threatened. Why does someone have to leave a public area if they have committed no crime?

  6. Miguel Correia says:

Hey, the people put both of them in power… or was it Diebold? he he he 😀

  7. joshua says:

#5…Mr. Fusion……sounds like a cop got excited. But the crowds did have Bush cornered and were getting very loud, and very obnoxious, with a lot of pushing and shoving towards Bush. Thanks to the new rabid school of political confrontation, people like Bush and others can no longer just stop and talk to a crowd as in the past, it’s frankly to damn dangerous.
And please, I don’t want to hear all the stuff about it’s all his brothers fault…..this ughly, nasty stuff comes from both sides and has been since I was a kid.

  8. Dan Man says:

The Bush family are no more arrogant than the Kennedy’s, the Clinton’s, etc. Bill Clinton is more articulate, smarter and a better actor than W. However he lacks balls. Jack Kennedy was smarter than Bill, had more charisma, and owned a pair of balls. W is not as dumb as he sometimes sounds, but he lacks depth. He seems to have a false sense of confidence inspired by his faith, which is may be ok for some of us, but not for the U.S. commander in chief. I think he abhors in depth analyses because the results will conflict with what he alread “knows”.

  9. Noname says:

#8 What measure of danger are you referring too??

From day one Bush hasn’t taken any self risk (hide out in the Guard during Vietnam). He is such a brave and courageous leader with balls the size of Jupiter, him and his cronies have to hand pick crowds before giving his lame speech’s. As far as I know Bush is the only prez to do this all, all the time . Yea, he is brave with other people treasure and lives, just not his own, not once; and you call that having balls (maybe bigger then yours).

  10. Noname says:

My Bad, all Scrotum remarks above are intended for the inhuman scrotum sizing ability of #9, not #8. I heard dogs are able to do the same thing. #9 are part hound dog?

  11. sdf says:

    Jethro for preznit!

  12. Sounds The Alarm says:

The Bush brothers – oh so brave.

  13. Mr. Fusion says:

    #8, joshua,

So a cop got excited. That is still not an excuse to tazer someone. It is still assault and unless my version of the Constitution has changed lately, a cop does not have the authority to just injure people without cause. If there was sufficient cause to tazer the people, there was also cause to arrest them.

Bush doesn’t deserve to antagonize people then call upon police protection. There was no indication he was under threat or imminent harm from the crowd. Not to many years ago he would have been physically put out of town and even possibly tarred and feathered.
