U.S. police arrested an 83-year-old woman on suspicion of entering California from Mexico with 10 pounds (4.5 kg) of methamphetamine strapped to her body, officials said on Thursday.
The woman, who is a U.S. citizen, and two Mexican nationals were arrested in San Ysidro, California, on Monday as they drove north from Tijuana, Mexico.
Both women were passengers in the vehicle driven by a 22-year-old Mexican man.
“It’s very unusual for us to arrest such an elderly smuggler, but it’s not unique,” De Cima told Reuters by telephone. “We are catching more drugs at the port and so the Mexican cartels are using more creative techniques to try and get away with it.”
Doesn’t it warm the cockles of your heart to see that gangsters don’t support age-discrimination?
Gonna be a quiet Christmas without Grandma 🙁
This just gives the the TSA justification to strip search your grandma before her flight home. Looks like grandmas everywhere should start going commando to thwart the warm hands of our government’s elite searching security forces.
Sirfelix – Depends.
It’s not that new. Jay Leno talked about this elders-as-smugglers phenomenon years ago: “You can always tell a drug-smuggling senior citizen. They’re the ones driving down the freeway in a brand new Porsche at 25 miles an hour with the turn signal on.”
and years later… Jay still can’t tell a joke..
Finaly a new job for seniors 🙂
What about terrorists drinking a gallon of highly combustible liquid and then swallow a match once the plane was at a high altitude? That’s all we need after that: x-ray machines to scan our guts before we enter the airport.
