I think this has to be the funniest (and sickest) comment from Republicans that I’ve seen on this whole mess. He said this on Sunday, on Chris Wallace’s show on Fox. The site has a video of The Newt saying all this.
Wallace then asked: “How would it have been gay bashing?” Gingrich replied: “Because it was a male-male relationship,” adding that “there was no proof” that Foley was a “predatory person.”
Gimme an f’n break!
And here’s a video from 2002 of Foley speaking in the House to the pages.
Oh, yeah! The GOP would NEVER THINK of doing anything to offend the gays!
Wow! Newt really is a slime ball. It makes me sad that I was a supporter of his in 1994. That was before I came to the conclusion that no politician can be trusted.
Would it be inappropriate if he emailed 16 year old girls in the same manner? Yes? Then it has nothing to do with gay bashing and all about protecting children from predators. Pretty poor explaination. Rather insulting too.
We all know Newt isn’t concerned with the appearance of gay-bashing. We also know the gay men are not attracted to young teen boys, but are rather attracted to … wait for it … other gay men.
By connecting pedophiles with homosexuals, the GOP can continue its campaign of hate, slander, and abuse toward the gay community even as they weather yet another in a seemingly endless string of horribly embarrassing ethics violations, scandles, and crimes.
I’ll sit back now and wait for a neocon to say, “Yea? Well, Clinton got a blow job.”
hey wasn’t he banging one of his aids back in 1999?

Interesting, but can you show us that there are actually less sex crimes committed by Democrat or Independent officials? It’s pretty meaningless otherwise.
#7
When Democrats entangle themselves in sexual scandals, it is with young twenty-something aspiring models (Gary Hart) and buxom twenty something aids (Clinton) or secretaries (Kennedy) or Marylin Monroe (The best Kennedy)…
There’s nothing wrong with that. That’s good old fashioned American fun.
OFTLO –
That’s hardly an exhaustive list of Democrat (or Independent) officials who have been involved in sex crimes or scandals, at all levels of government – federal, state and local.
6. I would have written “Wow – and not even one Liberal sex offender. Maybe you have something there.” Except I think you are actually trying to show that, while there are perverts everywhere and in every party, some conservatives are falsely claiming there are none in their midsts. You’ve proved that.

Yep, and she became his THIRD wife.
I refer to these (Limbaugh, 3 marriages, 3 divorces) as Serial Polygamists.
J/P=?
Better check your dictionary, JP.
“Polygamist”, “serial” or not, means having 2, 3 or more wives at the same time.
#9 – Frank… Why would I care about an exhaustive list? I’m on the other team. You make a list. I’m busy with my fellow liberals dancing on the political grave of former U.S. Representative Mark Foley, a Republican of Florida, and newly outed pedophile, who resigned from Congress. House Speaker and Republican Denis Hastert was complicit in a conspiracy with other other key Republicans to cover up the pedophilia of former U.S. Representative Mark Foley, a Republican of Florida, and newly outed pedophile.
Man… I just love how that sounds.
I’m never gonna get tired of this 🙂
Hey Frank – I LOVE the “they did too” defense.
What number of democrats would it take so it justifies Foley being a pedophile and Hasert being a conspirator?
Neocowards – everyone.
Sheesh. I knew it was bad, if anywhere near this many Dems are involved, maybe God should take us out. I dont think the general population has this bad a record, perspectively.
Awake,
Thank You Very Much.
You have showed us how “the party of high moral standards,” is less than they preach. I think that the Christian Coalition should reconsider who they back in the elections.
What happened to these people who used moral issues to get into power? Did they not think that they would ever get exposed? Or is pediphelia a “family value?”
Sure there are probably as many Democratic, and Independant politicos who are not as moral as we would like them to be. They just know better than to run on issues of morality. Most Dems and Indys know the fact that it is a futile effort to legislate, or run on morals, because everyone’s morals are a little bit different from each other. I do not condone the the obsession with child molestation, or similar behavior. Children should be protected from people like Foley, and the like, due to their lack of sexual experience. If they are both adults, I really could not care if they had sex with each other. I hope that we can all at least agree on this.
In addition to the most obvious conclusion that can be drawn from the Foley scandal is that Secret Service protection needs to be extended to DC Pages. That and we can isolate four year old IM messages out of hundreds of millions sent over that time, but can’t/won’t produce a voting machine that leaves a paper trail from an election two weeks ago.
#7 – Frank.
I don’t have to make a list of the Democrats… that is not the point.
The point is that Republicans always run around claiming to be the party of family values, small government, economic responsibility, strong defense, respect for personal rights, personal integrity, etc, etc, etc… and over and over they are showing that they are a lot like “Dorian Gray’s Portrait”, good looking on the outside but a rotting corpse on the inside.
They should just chage the name of the organization from “Republican Party” to “Three Monkey Party”.

“Polygamist”, “serial” or not, means having 2, 3 or more wives at the same time.
Yep, I know that… using the analogy to ‘mass murder’- there are two types of mass murder, 1) several people killed at the same time (a la Columbine) 2) several people killed over a period of time (Ted Bundy)
Deliberate mis-use a la Humpty Dumpty in Through the Looking Glass.

16. Yes, like this is the party that has always been known for its support of gay attacks on kids. But then I suppose you would also have to believe this is reflective of all gays too, right? That the Republicans should have eliminated Foley right from the start to ensure the purity of the party’s moral ambitions.
RBG
Since when is reporting sex crimes against children considered gay bashing?? I guess gay bashing is only considered acceptable when you are trying to energize your conserative right wing base. I wonder how energized those hypocrites are now?
Newt is an idiot.
Lists of people involved in sex scandals in Washington are silly. There are so many of both parties you could wipe out a forest putting them on paper.
Unfortunatly you take a chance everytime you vote that you won’t elect an idiot, a sex offender, a crook, etc., etc., it’s the price of democracy.
#6 – wow thats quite a record – might want to publish that in a newspaper so the people that vote (old people) can see it –
if they do… well, theres only two choices, but they’re old people, they’re not infallable, – so its rebublicans for FOUR MORE YEARS!!!!!
/woot

Someone told me that the Republicans are going to start pleading the 21st amendment.
21. Answer: When that straightforward task is somehow used to bash conservatives. And by the same silly logic, gays.
Nothing energizes conservatives like protecting children and weeding out the bad apples. Watch.

Damn, we’re battin’ 1000. I wonder if any of our politicians ARENT one of the above. This democracy thing is expensive.

That’s not true. What is true is that the conservative base is energized by empty gestures and fearmongering about percieved dangers to kids… Usually, when they are “thinking of the children” they are really trying to curtail an adult activity that their preacher told them to be offended by.
But who cares… Because former U.S. Representative Mark Foley, a Republican of Florida, and newly outed pedophile, resigned from Congress AND (drumroll please) House Speaker and Republican Dennis Hastert was complicit in a conspiracy with other other key Republicans to cover up the pedophilia of former U.S. Representative Mark Foley, a Republican of Florida, and newly outed pedophile.
I wish there were someone who could write music while I convert that into lyrics.
27, I think your lyrics would almost work over the music to Yankee Doodle Dandy. You could call yours Yank Your Doodle, Dummy (and leave the Pages alone).
Good riddance to bad rubbish. He’s free to join the liberals now.
