HP to acquire Voodoo PC | Tech News on ZDNet — This might liven things up in the Dell versus HP battles.
Voodoo PC has agreed to be acquired by Hewlett-Packard, Voodoo founder and Chief Technology Officer Rahul Sood announced on his blog Thursday.
Details of the transaction were not released. Rahul Sood and his brother Ravi, currently the CEO of Voodoo, will take positions within a new game business unit in HP’s Personal Systems Group reporting to Phil McKinney, that group’s chief technology officer, according to the posting on Rahul Sood’s blog.
Voodoo makes expensive high-end PCs for gamers and PC enthusiasts, often with flashy designs and cases. This is a relatively small portion of the PC market, but it yields higher margins than the mainstream market. Customers of companies like Voodoo, Alienware and Falcon Northwest are thought to wield influence over less tech-savvy friends and colleagues.
Rahul sold out?
Well its better than being bought out by Dell. Voodoo makes amazing and expensive gaming pcs.
Gives HP more board members to spy on!
Might be a good fit for HP. It gives them a good brand name and some high end margins. Let’s just hope they don’t get an accountant or MBA overseeing the division.
Well HP has made out much better than Dell did-Voodoo systems are very well made as opposed to the junk Alien has been pawning off-

4. I purchased an Alienware laptop about four years ago. As soon as I turned it on, I realized the mistake I made. The screen was plain awful. I had been using the IBM Thinkpad series T20s and there was no comparison. I returned right away. I never tried a Voodoo, though I have to say that HP PCs that were inherited by their absorption of Compaq are much better than its predecessors. I think HP will be stronger with Voodoo under its belt.

Voodoo (like Falcon) makes a great box. They build what I build.
I don’t see why the buyers of these brands would hold sway over other neophytes. They aren’t smart shoppers if they are buying custom rigs at 3 to 4 times the cost of doing it yourself. And they aren’t geeks if they don’t understand how to use a phillips screwdriver, which is the first and last tool required to build a world class gaming rig.

Hp is working on some really cool and very realistic gaming equipment that uses any where from 2 to 4 projectors.

For the past 15 years building a pc is about pluging in components and ribbion cables. Its no big deal to build a PC.
The real problem was getting the hardware to work properly with the software. Damm how I hated IRQ conflicts.

#8 – I’m happy that you are happy for your friends, and I am glad they’ve been successful, and their machines are very high quality machines.
And they cost too much.
I suppose its worth it to whomever can see their way to spending that much…. But the Omen clocks in at $6000 with a single ATi Radeon X1900XTX 512 SS, 2 gigs of Corsair, a run of them 80 gig SATA drive, a run of the mill DVD burner, XP Pro, and an Intel Core 2… And one helluva pretty case…
For that price, I need a Logitech G-15, a laser mouse like the G-5, a killer 24 inch widescreen LCD, dual video cards (preferably nVidea), twin Raptors striped and a 500 gig storage drive, and a manual release.
For six grand, I can build two killer rigs that will smoke the Omen, and you can actually play on them because they’ll include monitors, keyboards, and mice. And while I can’t get the stylish custom made cases Voodoo uses, I can make them look amazingly sharp. So can anyone else, for that matter.

The market determines the price of goods and services not the governement.
Not everyone can do what you can do.
When it comes to high end of an item. (Luxury goods)consumers tend to pay way more than the item is worth.
Bently, Rolls Royce, Prada, Fendi, Rolex and so forth.
With that said perhaps you would like to take a stab at marketing your high end Pc, so one day I can be happy for you as well.
