I kid! I kid!

Political error or calculated move? – — This essay brings up some interesting points that need discussing. Is the Pope actually trying to start a fight? Is all this a calculated scheme? I wonder myself because for the most part I cannot see why the Pope cares what people think. He’s the Pope for cripessake. None of the Catholics are too concerned about his comments. Why are the Muslims so thin-skinned? If you look at the historical relationship of the ummah (worldwide Muslim unity) to the dhimmi (non-believers), the dhimmi cannot say anything about anything without permission and they have no rights whatsoever. The fact that the Muslims react like this to every perceived affront actually might mean that they think that they own the place and the Pope (a dhimmi) has to apologize and bow down to them. The fact that every time something like this happens a slew of dhimmis get killed in Muslim countries with no attempt to do anything about it by the local authorities. That’s because in a traditional 10th century Muslim state a Muslim can legally kill a dhimmi when they feel like it for any reason they want. Hence nuns are killed over the Pope and lots of dhimmis were killed because of the cartoon fiasco. Nobody did jack about it.

All this, of course, is exacerbated and encouraged by allowing Shar’ia law to be used as a second layer of laws in countries like Canada. Thus you end up with weird and sick “honor killings” within Western countries and the perpetrators somewhat baffled by the fuss.

German Chancellor Angela Merkel attempted to quell the storm, saying the pope’s remarks were misunderstood, but a reading of the speech in its entirety produces the opposite impression: Not only does the pope believe Islam is a violent religion spread by force, he also believes there is no room for reason within Islam, in complete contradiction to Christianity, which is based on reason. This does not look like a misunderstanding or slip of the tongue – this is apparently what the pope believes.

Now, here’s an interesting situation for you market watchers. What happens if the Pope goes to Turkey, as he plans to, and gets killed by Islamist radicals?

  1. Michael Heinz says:

I don’t think he’s trying to start a literal fight, but I do think he’s deliberately goading the islamists into revealing themselves.

And, I suppose it makes perfect strategic sense – if nothing else, it reveals the intolerance and murderous violence of the islamic fanatics.

What I also find amusing is that after years of accepting not-quite-apologies from celebrities and politicians, the press can’t figure out why the muslims won’t take “I’m sorry your offended” as an apology.

  2. Improbus says:

What happens if the Pope goes to Turkey, as he plans to, and gets killed by Islamist radicals?

They would be doing us a favor. I say more power to them. This new guy isn’t worthy to stand in John Paul’s shadow.

  3. Brian says:

What truly amazes me is that the Pope makes an obscure reference about Muslims being violent and the reaction is “How can you say that? To prove your are wrong we will blow stuff up and kill people.”

  4. Jorgon Melgin says:

These incidents follow a hilarious pattern: someone alleges violent tendencies on the part of some Muslims, and to prove the point, certain Muslims threaten or commit violence in retaliation for such an outrageous assertion, thus proving the point.

It’s people with a deep sense of insecurity or lack of self-worth who tend to react so intensely to a perceived insult. (Think Joe Pesci in “Goodfellas.”) It’s not a sign of strength — just the opposite.

It’s worth watching for this pattern in one’s life: if someone vastly overreacts to criticism or a perceived insult, it often means one thing: diagnosis confirmed.

Islam is the Macintosh of religions.

  5. And thanks to the USA Pakistan has an A-bomb!

  6. The article said, “The very term ‘holy war’ was coined by Pope Urban II, who sent his Christian soldiers off to massacre Muslims and Jews simply for refusing to convert to Christianity.”

If that statement is correct, then Roman Catholicism and Islam are merely the two opposing sides of the same proverbial coin.

  7. 0113addiv says:

He better go to Turkey dressed up like he is in this photo, and with his hands up, start singing the following:

    OTTAWAN
Hands Up (Give Me Your Love)

    Hands up, baby, hands up,
Gimme your heart, gimme, gimme your heart
    Give it, give it.
    Hands up, baby, hands up,
    Gimme your heart, gimme, gimme
All your love, all your love.

Angel face, I love your smile,
Love your ways, I like your style.
What can I do to get closer to you?
Don’t think twice or count to ten.
Don’t take advise, don’t ask me when.
Just come my way, simply kiss me and say:

Hands up, baby, hands up, …

With you head up in the sky,
    Every day you’re walking by,
Why don’t you never starts looking at me?
Stop that game, don’t waste your time,
For all your dreams are matchin’ mine,
No use to play hide and seek for a week.

Hands up, baby, hands up, …

Let me be your Romeo, your wonder boy,
    And your super champ.
Let me take you to the milky way
On a holiday, on a holiday.
Follow me, why don’t you follow me?
Just come my way simply kiss me and say:

Hands up, baby, hands up, …

  8. Ryan says:

“All this, of course, is exacerbated and encouraged by allowing Shar’ia law to be used as a second layer of laws in countries like Canada.”

Where in Canada is Shar’ia law used?

I know there was a debate about it in Ontario but in the end it was turned down.

  9. Holy Paladin says:

“..traditional 10th century Muslim state a Muslim can legally kill a dhimmi when they feel like it for any reason they want…”

Hello!!! its the 21st century – no wonder these morons are stuck in the past, its the only time their despicable race ever had any power or say in anything.

We should start the crusades again. Dibs on Jerusalem!!

  10. mandarin says:

    Err what ‘dispicable race’ ?

  11. Michael Heinz says:

The article said, “The very term ‘holy war’ was coined by Pope Urban II, who sent his Christian soldiers off to massacre Muslims and Jews simply for refusing to convert to Christianity.”

If that statement is correct, then Roman Catholicism and Islam are merely the two opposing sides of the same proverbial coin.

Eugene, that is not (entirely) correct. For the first centuries after the fall of the Roman Empire, the middle east was christian. Once Islam began forcibly conquering and converting people to Islam Christian Europe attempted to counter-attack and re-take those lands and peoples.

The truth is that the Muslims came quite close to conquering Europe, not the other way around – which is the basis for their claims that Spain unjustly drove them from the Iberian penninsula.

  12. Franco says:

Let’s put all these religious wack-jobs in a room and let them slug it out – like an old-fashioned wrestling “Rage in a Cage” match.

  13. Franco..good thinking. Too bad these zealots are insincere and would rather have others die in their place.

  14. Jason_w says:

If you look at exactly what the Pope said, it becomes clear that the real problem is Islam today and how it’s so prone to violence. The Pope said nothing that would warrant the madness coming out of the middle east. What the Pope said was actually very rational and cogent – he’s only apologizing because he’s a man of peace – not because he need to.

  15. Steve_F says:

Shar’ia law was discussed in Ontario by the incompetent Liberal party. They couldn’t see how to tax it so they dropped it.

  16. OhForTheLoveOf says:

I’m glad you weren’t implying in your post that Islam is only 5% of the population. I’d have been forced to smack you with facts.

  17. rctaylor says:

These protesters are some poor bastards rounded up by a few reactionaries and stuck in front of cameras. The press needlessly whips these stories up and does most of the job for the radicals.

  18. doug says:

    11. “which is the basis for their claims that Spain unjustly drove them from the Iberian penninsula.”

Islam was unjustly driven from Iberia. The muslims surrendered Grenada to the Christian monarchs with the promise they would be allowed to remain and practice their religion. guess who reneged on that one?

But yes. I have no use for this or any other pope, but this thin-skinned business is getting rather tiresome.

  19. ECA says:

WOW, I see a REAL religious war coming..

  20. Improbus says:

I see a REAL religious war coming.

Let’s hope so. The less nut jobs around the better.

  21. Angel H. Wong says:

Let him throw stones at them.

I’m sick of hearing radical Muslims talk BS about Judaism and Christianity but God forbid if someone touches them with anything less than a silk glove.

  22. Mr. H. Fusion says:

    As the saying goes,

Kill ’em all. Then let God sort it out

  23. Joe says:

what happenes if the pope gets killed while in Turkey. Its called the final solution. Invented for the jews to get rid of them in Europe will be most likely by the western nations to exterminate the Muslim race/religion

  24. Kevin Wenger says:

This has been blown completely out of proportion. The media really screwed up on this one. Go to the vatican website, and read the speech. He never said attacked islam. He quoted an old byzantine emperor, and beforehand said that the emperors comments were shocking and harsh and wrong. So how did this whole thing turn into a mess? The media did not clearly explain things. Damn bias

  25. 0113addiv says:

    12. You call these people “religious wack-jobs” but let me tell you why “God” must survive, and will survive.

“God” is a source of power. It doesn’t matter that God doesn’t exist– He doesn’t. But look at the power that is wrought by His belief. The poor and uneducated need this because those with education and in power treat the poor like lower human beings. One of God’s Natural Law is that ALL MEN ARE EQUAL (not just “all men are CREATED equal). This is where the U.S. Constitution is FLAWED. We have built a civilization in the model of a pyramid. You treat porters who clean toilets for a living with less respect than you would the President of the United States. I treat them equally. EQUAL. Unequal responsiblities, different responsibility, separate tasks. You see, we talk about that every one is equal but look at the way we treated Blacks just a couple of decades ago. The structure of our society is based on status, classes and education. Look at how we talk about these “terrorists”. Trouble is, we can’t look beyond our own backyards, and we meddle into their back yards to excavate their black gold. They are telling us to stop but we go ahead anyway disrespecting them. What other power do they have? They can’t compete in army strength. But they can compete in a belief in God. That belief is so strong that they will die for it. That is the last power remaining to the poor. It is their only fighting chance. And as much as we say they are crazy and that God does not exist, THAT belief in God has, and will kick our ass because the weapon their fighting with is immortality through mortal sacrifice. None of us can swing that sword. We won’t even dare to look at the reflection of the shining staff of stainless steel. In the end, the sword is still mightier than the word.

  26. Stu Mulne says:

    Dunno….

The Pope & friends never had a problem killing Jews (or just making them miserable)….

But the Muslims are just plain foolish. When Colin Powell called Iraq II a “crusade” they flipped out….

We of course insist on playing by the rules.

Wonder why it’s a mess out there?

    Regards,

  27. Tabatha says:

This whole mess is actually quite Ironic because all the Pope said was that violence should never be part of religious discussion… a point I tend to agree with.

It should be clear to most people that Islam needs to go through a reformation, much like Christianity did a few hundred years ago… Simply equating Islam with Christianity, like rosie odonnell or Franco above is just foolish really gets us nowhere.

Furthermore, how many people today are able to quote a Byzantine emperor in the proper conext?

  28. Ari says:

    John C. Dvorak,

With the readership you have it’s not nice for you to be spreading hate like this. Yes some Muslims are messed up but with 1 billion of them out there living in poverty and dysfunctional states you can safely bet for hundreds or thousands of them to be pissed about something on any given day.

Now here is a good introduction for you to from our friends at Wikipedia. The article also includes good reference material for you to understand that historically Muslims have been way more tolerant of others than Pope and his herd have been with their Inquisition, support for the Holocaust, and present day condom scare that is ravaging HIV-infested Africa.

May God (aka Allah) help us all!
    Ari

  29. 18. “Islam was unjustly driven from Iberia. ”

Let me get this straight. They invaded Spain, slaughtered or forcibly converted it’s inhabitants, but you think they were “unjustly driven from Iberia.”

You might want to look over

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crusade#Historical_context

  30. Good Soldier says:

It is a shame that General George Patton got killed in tnat accident shortly after VE Day If he had lived, he was more popular that Eisenhower and could have became President of the United States. He was a warrior, and would have used all the might in his possesion to stop the cold war, then China, then ——-
    You get the picture
