First we presented you with a counter-script to have some fun with annoying telemarketers. Now we bring you the next step: a pseudo-AI system for automating the fun!
The Telecrapper 2000 (TC2K) is a computerized system designed to intercept incoming Telemarketing calls on the first ring, and then carry on a virtual conversation with the telemarketer. Here’s how it works:
First the TC2K computer (any standard PC) is connected to the phone line via a Caller ID modem or serial Caller ID device. The user creates a setup text file (called a “hit list”) that declares all of the Caller ID strings (numbers and/or names) he considers “annoying”

As if that feature wasn’t enough, the TC2K then plays a wave file over the extension for the telemarketer to hear. The user can declare a list of wave files, in a specific order, that he wishes to be played to calls on his “hit list”.

Perhaps best of all, the “virtual” conversation between the TC2K and the telemarketer is recorded for the user to enjoy and share with other TC2K users. I will try to maintain links to as many TC2K conversations as possible from this page.

Just this morning I had a telemarketer calling for the Police Benevolent Fund call me. My first question was how much does this charity actually use for fallen police officer’s families and how much went into administration. I asked him to send me a copy of the certified audit and I would get back to him. Somehow I don’t think I’ll ever see the audit. I didn’t last year either.
You guys really need an Asterisk systems if telemarketing calls are this much of a problem. With it you can simulate every last thing this machine does(for prolly less money). AND it already has the default scripts ready to play the “no longer in service” tone for a fraction of second if there is no caller id. That tone gets you off of their call list.

Mr Fusion, most telemarketing calls claiming to be the PBA are bullshit. Most PBAs do not solicit by phone and usually do some type of mailing. I would always call your local PD if you had any doubts and wanted to donate.
gq, I am already on the Do Not Call list. Unfortunately, the only ones who can call are Police, charity, and those who I’ve done business with in the past year. That means about 1/10 what we got before the list. To tell the truth, I don’t ever remember donating or buying anything because of a telephone call.
My biggest beef with the Police requests is the power they hold and the insinuation. As for family death benefits, why on earth does the state not provide a decent pay and insurance package for Police, fire fighters, and others doing dangerous yet necessary work. They should not be forced to ask the public for something we should have given them in the first place.

They do, that’s why I say these calls are bullshit. They are not from your local PBA. Anyway PBAs solicit money, not for their members, but to give back to the community, just like other charities. They give scholarships, donate to needing families, ect. Police have pension, death benefits and heath care, none of which comes from any donation to a PBA.
Oh boy… I had this idea a few years ago, guess there wont be patent registering by me now 😛
