Why aren’t more Bush supporters lining up to volunteer? Isn’t the 2nd Iraqi War worth fighting? It seems not enough people feel strongly enough about it to volunteer to go into harm’s way, so he has to force soldiers to return.

President Bush has authorized the U.S. Marine Corps to recall 2,500 troops to active duty because there are not enough volunteers returning for duty in Afghanistan and Iraq, Marine commanders announced Tuesday.

The recall was authorized last month, and will begin in spring 2007 to fill positions for upcoming rotations, Marine officials said. The Marine Corps is currently picking volunteers from the Marine Individual Ready Reserve, the officials said.

Soon nobody will volunteer because they know they’ll be serving a majority of the 8-year committment on active duty under fire. Maybe soon we’ll see press gangs trolling the bars for “volunteers”.

    > If the republicans hold power in November —
    > which I think is highly probable

hehe, never again.. religious wars for oil, imploding economy, destruction of the environment, you really think the american people are going to vote republican ever again?

  2. Mr. H. Fusion says:

…Calling our soldiers murders shows you are antiamerican, antibush, and antithinking.

Not every soldier or Marine has done something wrong in Iraq. Unfortunately, these things have happened. This does not mean that to call a soldier that raped and killed a 14 year old girl then killed her family a murderer reflects upon every soldier and Marine.

How on earth you get to call someone anti-american because he disagrees with you, baffles me. Turning a blind eye to that which is wrong is unamerican.

Named’s post shows some deep thinking. Your response shows a whiney attitude. You can’t argue his points so you change to name calling. Now, that is a real American. NOT!!!

  3. Mr. H. Fusion says:

The only way the Republicans will retain control of Congress is by stealing another election. Only this time I don’t think people will tolerate it.

  4. Mark says:

#35, oh how I wish I could go along with you, but it’s way too far gone for that. Watch: there will some some “national security” emergency along about mid October, and the media will blanket the airwaves with Repub talking points, effectively scaring the swing voters who decide the elections. I’m afraid we have not yet bottomed out on the right-wing power run.

When the treasury is finally and utterly depleted and the military family sentiment turns against the Repub power base for their bald faced lies, that’s when power might shift back toward the political center, where most of America traditionally lives. In the meantime, expect another full two years of Repub control, and it sure ain’t gonna be pretty.

  5. Teyecoon says:

Even with the immense number of Republican f**k ups, I’m still not convinced that the American population has gotten any wiser nor any less ambivalent to voting. Republican hardliners that got Bush elected are staunch, unwavering and unjudgemental sheep that are more concerned with overboard selfish tax cuts than acknowledging any of the adverse effects of this administration’s policies. All these people see is a house which is tripled in price and a new car gained through tax cuts. Unless the war or environmental polution crosses their front door, they are happy supporters in their own little microcosms.

Besides this, we don’t have any strong outspoken leaders in any other party who are willing to lead the “revolution”. The democratic party has pathetically let the Republicans run roughshod over them and pressured them all in to looking like supporters just because we are in an ill chosen military conflict. Where was anyone with the “balls” to stand up against the 9-11 argument? The Republicans are unyielding manipulators of our press and language. They are a business marketing machine and I just haven’t seen any respectable competition from any other political party nor effective challenges by the “free” press. It’s to a point where this administration can outright lie and the next day it’s water under the bridge. This is the power of having cronies who own the media. If it wasn’t for comedy central, there wouldn’t be any public voice of reason and rationale.

  6. Awake says:

The best solution for ending this war, and for a stable military, is the draft.

With an equitable draft, those that just run their mouths claiming ‘support our troops’ and ‘we must make sacrifices’ without actually doing anything might be required to actually do something. Let’s see how many right-winger mothers and fathers proclaim unabashed support for this administration and it’s mismanaged war if their son or daughter is actually going to be sent off to fight it.

Exemptions… none… everyone get’s to go to boot camp when their number gets pulled.

Our leaders keep telling us that we ust make sacrifices, while not making ANY sacrifices of ANY type themselves. Have a few congressmen’s kids die in Iraq and I guarantee you that we will be out of that mess in just a few weeks, with the president impeached for taking us there in the first place.
