San Diego to England to UN to Iran to Syria to Hezbollah to terrorists. “We know nothing. We See nothing!”

I smell money. And of course nobody will get fired. Nobody will be even called to task.

Israeli officials say they believe the state-of-the-art equipment, found in Hezbollah command-and-control headquarters in southern Lebanon during the just-concluded war, was part of a British government-approved shipment of 250 pieces of night-vision equipment sent to Iran in 2003.

Israeli military intelligence confirmed that one of the pieces of equipment is a Thermo-vision 1000 LR tactical night-vision system, serial No. 155010, part No. 193960, manufactured by Agema, a high-tech equipment company with branches in Bedfordshire, England, and San Diego. A spokesman for Agema in San Diego denied all knowledge of the system.

The equipment, which needed special export-license approval from the British government, was passed to the Iranians through a program run and administered by the U.N. Drug Control Program. The equipment uses infrared imaging to provide nighttime surveillance that allows the user to detect people and vehicles moving in the dark at a range of several miles.

Looks like Bush might have a smoking gun and excuse to now attack Iran. The government will make up some fake documents or statements proving Iran is providing terrorists with weapons. Wha-La! Instant war!

    Shades of the Falklands!

This report reminded me of an article I read shortly after the Falklands war, regarding British commandoes finding-out that the reason they had such a difficult time against their Argentine counter-parts in night battles was that the Argentines were able to purchase state-of-the-art night-vision googles for their troops – on the open market.

While the British troops were using standard-issue NVGs, which were at least a genration behind the ones used by the Argentinians.

The article described how the British forces were surprised to find they could have a comrade go to a building across the street – at night – and be able to see them – through they stood in a dark room, across the street illumininated by a nearby street-lamp. They were startled that the image provided enough facial detail that they were able to identify their squad-mate – not just a “man-shaped object”.

The previous-generation NVGs used by the British could not see into the darkened room across the street, due to the light from the street-lamp.

So, Hizbollah is craftier than the Brits or the American regulators. What a surprise. When I saw the photos of this gear — I just figured they bought it direct.

  5. But why buy it when you can get it free?

  6. Named says:

All’s fair is love and war. Remember, Israel gets all you can eat weapons from the US for free direct. Plus a measley 3 billion in cold hard cash… They don’t have to wait for the WOD to… uh… end.

  7. GregAllen says:

Drug money has been arming Islamic radicals for years, so there is a perverse symmetry if the “War on Drugs” is equipping them, too.

By the way, is there still a “War on Drugs” or did America quietly declare a truce in that one?

    GregAllen,

Drug won… but the jails still need a’fillin!
