National Guard troops deployed along the U.S.-Mexico border as part of President Bush’s plan to free U.S. Border Patrol agents have been assigned bodyguards — some of the same agents the soldiers were sent to relieve.

Several veteran Border Patrol agents in Arizona told The Washington Times they were issued standing orders to be within five minutes of National Guard troops along the border and that Border Patrol units were pulled from other regions to protect the Guard units — leaving their own areas short-handed.

The agents, who refer to the assignment as “the nanny patrol,” said most of the Guard troops are not allowed to carry loaded weapons, despite a significant increase in border violence directed at Border Patrol agents and other law-enforcement personnel over the past year.

National Guard sent to guard the border as “administrators” are mostly unarmed. So, the Border Patrol has to protect them instead of the border.

How much campaign rhetoric bait-and-switch are we supposed to accept instead of real solutions for illegal entry?

  1. James Hill says:

Or, get over the idea of a National Guard member shooting an illegal if they fail to comply with directions.

  2. rctaylor says:

Let’s be honest here. Major business sectors want these illegals for cheap labor. In my area construction is now dependent on cheap Mexican labor. Construction and maintenance savings are passed on in the corporate world. Our economy is now addicted to cheap manual labor. This has caused economic and social upheavals in every nation that took this route. To see the future of this effect turn to California. In the US California is the national barometer, but few bother to learn from their problems. The powers that be don’t want the illegals stopped now. They’ll get reactionary at the next major economic slow down.

  3. Milo says:

The solution is obvious. Halliburton will be providing guards for the guards for 100 dollars an hour.

I believe they are also going to budget 2 trillion dollars for an orbital pheromone detection system to be built by a Mexican company owned by Saudi Arabia, monitored from a ground station in China.

  4. I understand her so much better knowing how she became the person I knew.

  5. Improbus says:

    Typical.

  6. Matthew says:

Illegals have helped rebuild New Orleans moreso than most politicians. Send them here we need their help.

  7. rlj_151 says:

So let me get this straight, the National Guard is on border patrol unarmed. yet during the LA riots of years ago, they were armed at shooting at actualy American citizens. Okay, makes sense me. Not!

and I am not an American

  8. Higghawker says:

This country is being sold out. Cheap labor means at some point your salary will become less. Every job that gets occupied by an illigal, drops your pay that much more. When the bottom finally drops out, these rich folks running this country will move out of this country, laughing all the way to the bank.
We need a third party in the next elections. The Reps. and Dems. are to much alike, looking out for themselves, not the good of this country.

  9. joshua says:

#11…Highhawker….good for you….now lets convince about 65 million more and we got a winner.

The guard was sent to basically do the non-border patrols. Admins if you will, so that the patrol could do their job. Crossings have been reduced, but who’s to say it’s because of the Guard.

Several big time politico’s nixed the guard carrying loaded weapons. They were afrais they would shoot one of those Mexican troops who have crossed the border to protect the coyotes that bribe them, and start a war. I agree with #9….makes you really wonder whats going on.

  10. Steve S says:

Being a border patrol agent can be tough! The following is a case where our government took the word of a drug smuggler (and gave him immunity) over the words of two border patrol agents. The agents have been convicted and are now facing up to 20 years in prison each.

  11. ECA says:

    OMFG, plz excuse…
    This is so STUPID…

  12. Mr. H. Fusion says:

    #13, Steve

I am still speechless. How could this happen? If there is any consolation, it will be the investigation by Congressman Sensenbrenner will help expose that the Border Patrol is being held back.

  13. ECA says:

    Cheaper LABOR, means MORE profits…
cheaper labor means Farmers ARNT paid MORE for their goods, And the CORPS dont WANT to pay more..
cheap Labor means NO benefits that are REQUIRED by State and feds…

  14. S. Curtis says:

Okay so let me get this right #8 you believe we should recruit illegals to help us out, what about after they are done? send them back? #13 i agree 110% but maybe that is another reason why national guard is unarmed? sad huh. #11 what kind of information are you backing this up with, when has salary dropped because of cheap labor? has minimum wage dropped, or gone up? #9 thank you, genius. not from our country but can see, maybe many americans are not seeing, just agreeing(political thing i know)
Finally, maybe border patrol should be authorized to do what they’re there for patrol the border, if necessary action should be taken, let it be. Also, why National guard? Obviously we’re not afraid to spend more money why not more/intelligent/better equipped border patrol??
