As a former tracked-vehicle rider, I shudder at the thought of trying to perform any maintenance on this thing if it jumps track. Otherwise, I think it would be a really cool thing to drive.
You may not have room in your garage (or budget) for a dirt bike and a snowmobile and a four-wheeler. But what if one vehicle could take the place of all three? That’s the idea behind the Hyanide, a wild concept vehicle created by German designers Oliver Keller and Tillman Schlootz for the 2006 Michelin Challenge Design. This year’s competition showcased vehicles made especially for California’s diverse and often rugged topography.
Named for its supposed resemblance to a crouching hyena, the Hyanide is designed to run on a flexible rubber tread that spans the machine’s entire underside. So if any part of the bottom is touching the ground, the Hyanide should be able to move, no matter how deep the quagmire, no matter how rough the terrain.
The article says the concept vehicle would have a top speed of over 75 MPH, but if both the front and rear turn into a curve, it would take some getting used to.
Cool!!!
Interesting…
This reminds me of a two wheel drive all terrain motorcycle I saw in the late 60’s. The front wheel was driven by a flex cable like an oversized speedometer cable. Not sure how well it worked, but it may have been more maneuverable than this tracked thing.
Cool, another mid life crisis toy.
I wish I could afford a mid-life crisis.
So if you get yourself killed on this thing, you could be said to have commited hyanide?
Paint it red and you have Dredd’s Lawgiver cycle right there 🙂
Bad idea to be clipped to the thing. It’s a bad enough on mountain bikes, and they can’t crush you if you roll them over.
#6: nice.
Hyanide; rhymes with cyanide, sounds like fun.
I wish I could afford a toy
Isn’t this why they invented the RPG?
With alittle Kevlar, and a rocket launcher on the sides, this might be great in desert sand..
