Silver Linings and a Cross of Gold

It turns out there’s an upside to the current conflict between Israel and Hezbollah—if you’re waiting for the second coming of Christ. Here’s a selection of excited messages spotted over the last few days on the Rapture Ready/End Times Chat online bulletin board. By Ken Silverstein.

Praise God! We are chosen to be in these times and also watch and spread the word. Something inside me is exploding to get out, and I don’t know what it is. Its kind of like I want to do cartwheels around the neighborhood.

A question just popped in my head. Do you think children of around say 7 or 8 (but before the age of accountability) that have been indoctrinated up until that time by their parents religious beliefs will be raptured? . . . For example, would a 7 year old muslim be raptured? I know G-d will do right but I was just wondering everyone’s thoughts. I hate to think of kids being left here.

* * *

Got that dancing feeling on the inside of me.

* * *

This is the busiest I’ve ever seen this website in a few years! I have been having rapture dreams and I can’t believe that this is really it! We are on the edge of eternity!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

* * *

In another thread, someone brought up the fact that the kidnapping of the first Israeli soldier that started this whole thing was on June 25th and if you count from that day to August 3rd…….it is *EXACTLY 40 days!!!!!*

I find that to be a HUGE coincidence.

* * *

Whoa! I can sure feel the glory bumps after reading this thread!

* * *

I too am soooo excited!! I get goose bumps, literally, when I watch what’s going on in the M.E.!! And Watcherboy, you were so right when saying it was quite a day yesterday, in the world news, and I add in local news here in the Boston area!! Tunnel ceiling collapsed on a car and killed a woman of faith, and we had the most terrifying storms I have ever seen here!! But, yes, oh happy day, like in your screen name , it is most indeed a time to be happy and excited, right there with ya!!

* * *
I am excited beyond words that the struggle of this life may be over soon and I can finally be FREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!

* * *

This is so exciting….I’m having a hard time believing this is ‘real’!

  1. Gary Marks says:

    Yeah, reading some of those messages from evangelical Christians, you have to be really glad that none of those people expecting to be “raptured” are in charge of formulating public policy for toxic waste prevention and cleanup, or even worse, have their finger on the button for nuclear weapons.

    Oh, wait…..

  2. Dan says:

    It frightens me that our President is sympathetic to (if not a member of) this Christian Cult of the Rapture.

    Does he sleep soundly, knowing that no matter how bad the killing gets, at least he’s got that Rapture-thing going for him?

    Is there a succession plan in place for our government after all the true believers are Raptured? How far down the chain of command will we have to go to find a leader once they are Raptured?

    The mayor of Lake Wobegon might be our next president?

  3. Tom says:

    Get your welcome Jesus t-shirts ready. The scary thing is that they are so intent on proving that there will be an armegeddon, that they are willing to create one themselves.

  4. JohnnyM says:

    wait shouldnt the 7 years of tribulation have preceded this or is that after the rapture? Anyways obviously, we know that this isn’t happening no one has a big enough army to even attack israel except Iran OH SHIT but I really I think everyone is gonna get to heaven no matter of what faith they are as long as the accept Jesus . And I dont Humans have even transcribed the bible correctly it was written by mere humans so i would take it with a grain of salt

  5. moss says:

    Self-fulfilling prophecies, gang. These nudnicks have no fallback to reality as they march our nations over the edge. They’re saved! They’re saved! And that’s the closest they get to ethics, understanding or humanity.

    Don’t forget that the dork in Washington has a matching bookend in London. These fools pray together for guidance on ending the world in what they consider to be good, khristian fashion.

  6. Improbus says:

    If there is a God no politician will be ruptured. They are all soulless creatures.

  7. jon says:

    7 years of tribulation? Well, looks like Bush is going to miss his last year in office. pity.

  8. doug says:

    #6 If it turns out there is a God, I imagine every politician will be ruptured.

  9. gquaglia says:

    Religion is the evil.

  10. Mr. H. Fusion says:

    I found some pictures of dancing in the streets. Some people are taking this rapture stuff just a little too far.

  11. Smartalix says:

    And some of these people are actually in positions of influence…

  12. John says:

    Why would God even want those fools? I hope it does happen soon, the commute times will be shorter and there won’t be any hypocritical morons trying to shove their dogma down everyones throat.

    Maybe God can take the zealots from all the religions.

  13. Bruce IV says:

    Why do 90% of the rest of Christian fundamentalists have to be ridiculous? Why? It just makes the rest of us look bad. Yes the Rapture is coming. No, we can’t tell when – the signs have been in place since Jesus time (the whole “wars and rumors of wars” thing). Yes, be prepared for the Rapture, keep in mind the possibility it could be tommorow, but do NOT expect it to be tomorrow, because you can’t know … War is NOT GOOD and sick people who use the Rapture, supposed to be the light at the end of the tunnel for those of us trapped in this broken, war torn world to justify the war are twisted. Its not right. Its nearly as much a perversion (well no, it isn’t, not in scale, but somewhat in principle) as radical Muslims using Islam to justify blowing themselves up. Christianity should be doing the Lord’s work in preperation for the Rapture, not sitting waiting. That’s my sermon for today, thank you very much …

  14. John Paradox says:

    Considering the ‘Rapture’ is non-Biblical (check out any of the Armageddon shows on History/National Geographic/Discovery channels), it really makes these Xians look like the fools they are.

    J/P=?

  15. Matt H says:

    Bruce IV – newsflash, your religion is a farce, and I can only assume that by posting here you are trying to prove something – go preach it to impressionable inbreds in the South – I want my Dvorak cynical, my technology god free, and my universe big-bang-like.

  16. woktiny says:

    who is the greater hypocrite, the man who does what he says is wrong because of his faith, or the one who does so for his lack of faith?

    theists are just as religious as atheists

    and those who push the “don’t push your dogma” dogma are in fact pushing a dogma

    I’m a hypocrite, and just like the rest, theistic and atheistic, I’m just trying to do what I think is right. someone tell me, without knowing which camp I fall in, how anyone is different

  17. Tom says:

    Well one thing is for sure, American Evangelists and Fundamentalist have made a mockery of the christian religion, not to mention the government, school systems, and Separation of Church and State. Why do they have so much power, because they take it, they force their views on everyone else until they believe what they are being force fed.

  18. traaxx says:

    It really doesn’t make a lot of sense either the attacks on the Christians or anyone that is “happy” over the rapture at this time. The broad minded approach might be as follows:

    If you are a true Christian then why wouldn’t you be happy if you perceived the coming rapture. This would mean a reunion with God and His Son. This means entry into heaven and peace of the soul. This ignores the fact that the Temple has yet to rebuilt and none of the signs have appeared as stated in the bible. Overall, a Christian can’t force someone to convert, and remain a true Christian. Their mission is simply to present the word to the world and let them choose. Pagans are safe, although no one says a Christian has to associate with a Pagan.

    Either way why should a Pagan/Atheist really worry or be disdainful of this. It reads more as a defensive religious group, Atheistic beliefs are a religion since it can’t be proven and is taken in large part on faith, repeating a mantra learned over the years.

  19. Uncle Dave says:

    Traxx, you might want to do some studying up on pagan religions. You might be suprised how much of it was appropriated by early Christians and still forms the basis for much of Christianity.

  20. Anon says:

    ‘ ‘Really as atheists, you know who you are, you are responsible for all the ‘killing and violence.’ ‘

    My logic just exploded.

  21. Nirendra says:

    The modern world is a whirlpool of selfishness, doubt, deceit, and destruction. Religion should help one to rise above that, not sink down itself.

  22. JimS says:

    – traaxx
    That’s a good one, you almost got me. You probably would have if your posts weren’t quite so over the top. I think that if you really want to bully-bait people, you’ll have better luck if you limit yourself to two or three crazy notions/statements per post.

    “…no Christian has committed an terrorist act yet.”

    OMG, I’m still chuckling over that one.

  23. Mr. H. Fusion says:

    Traax, My wife just reminded me that there are ten thousand comedians out of work and so you shouldn’t try to be funny. Sorry buddy, but it didn’t work. Ridiculous, over the top, good material, yes. But your delivery was off. Not enough dead panning to make it sound real.

  24. Seems to me that people would be better off putting effort into making life on Earth more pleasant, rather than writing it off as a bad job.

    Religious zealots are all… well…. zealots. Christian or Islam. I don’t believe they represent the views of the majority, or even a significant number, of true, peaceful, God (whatever His name) Loving people. I don’t like the phrase God Fearing – nobody should live through fear, but Love.

    Get a life I say, and I don’t mean the next one…

    Personally, I prefer Paganism as a model for peaceful coexistence.

  25. OmarTheAlien says:

    The fact that some one out there has something called “Glory Bumps” is enough to scare the hell out of me.

  26. jim says:

    Sick people. They are useless. Instead of trying to improve this world they want to destroy it for their selfishness. (they think they will be united with god). It doesn’t sound very Christian to me.

  27. dan bran says:

    remember — oversimplification is the root of all evil

  28. Franco says:

    As some Roman judge said to the christianoid wackos trying to get themselves martyred 2000 years ago… Please, if you want to die so much just find a rope or a cliff and leave us alone.

  29. catbeller says:

    30: No — evil is the root of itself. Stupidity, willful ignorance, refusal to examine assumptions, and the core evil, as Terry Pratchett says, is when people are treated like things. To the Rapturists, a purely American 19th century cult, only themselves are human. The rest burn, and are beneath notice. The planet, the environment, the animals and plants are not even stage props for them. It’s all a game, and they are the only pieces. We’re the board, and we get burned for eternity while they look on and laugh in company with a sadistic, inhuman, psychotic Jesus that can only be found in Revelations, and completely misunderstood book that should never have been put in the Bible. It was a metaphor for the ultimate triumph of Israel over the Romans, not a blueprint for the end of the world. The metaphors refered to Rome, and to a messiah leading them out of Roman power.

  30. catbeller says:

    24: Religion is not inherently a force for peace and good. It’s a human construct, built by humans for human purpose, and if examined carefully, is nothing but people talking to themselves, telling themselves that the voices in their heads are a power from Beyond. Religion can murder, it can rape, it can inspire, it can steal, it can do anything a human being can imagine. Peace and wisdom don’t need gods, but killing a million people usually requires at least one god talking to one human, somewhere in the mix. Only gods can inspire a man to kill millions with no conscience, for they grant pardon or give orders.

    Non-theists have no one to blame but themselves for what they do. But theists, they point at the sky to show where the voices in their heads come from before they club you to the ground.
