How it works.
Laughter. That’s the loudest sound you’ll hear at rural African schools with a PlayPump. This innovative water pump that doubles as a children’s merry-go-round is bringing clean water – and a better life – to hundreds of thousands of families in Africa.
It’s a simple idea. As children spin on a merry-go-round, water pumps from below the ground. It is stored in a tank just a few feet away, making a safe, plentiful supply of water available in the community.
Nearly 700 PlayPumps have been installed in South Africa, providing safe water to a million people living in rural communities.
Actually that’s a nice idea SN. Pony rides for the kids at the same time.
Better watch it, some group might come in and say it violates child labor laws. So the pony rides might be coming soon.
Hey, I’m really thirsty — can you give the kids some candy so they’ll pump a little faster?
#3 – either that or African children will develop huge muscles like Conan the Barbarian. 🙂
I can’t wait to hear how a small army of corporate lawyers harrass the inventors of the playpump and force them into signing a document relinquishing all rights to it, and also to claim that the company these scumbags work for were the ones who thought of it first and is the most appropiate entity to implement this devices in the future.
Expect this company to destroy the already implemented playpumps just because they were not profiting from it.
Still a very interesting idea – use children, who tend to have more energy than they know what to do with, to provide a useable service for the community.
#5 AB CD….you would be guessing WRONG!!!!
This is for real.
