According to these a-holes, helping to relieve the crushing poverty, starvation, diseases and other evils of overpopulation creates is a sin.
Pro-Lifers Against Buffett-Gates Alliance
Warren Buffett’s new philanthropic alliance with fellow billionaire Bill Gates won widespread praise this week, but anti-abortion activists did not join in, instead assailing the two donors for their longtime support of Planned Parenthood and international birth-control programs.
The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, to which Buffett has pledged the bulk of his $44-billion fortune, devotes the vast majority of its funding to combating disease and poverty in developing countries. Less than 1 percent has gone to Planned Parenthood over the years.
“The merger of Gates and Buffett may spell doom for the families of the developing world,” said the Rev. Thomas Euteneuer, a Roman Catholic priest who is president of Human Life International.
Referring to Josef Mengele, the infamous Nazi death camp doctor, Euteneuer said Buffett “will be known as the Dr. Mengele of philanthropy unless he repents.”
30 Then tell me its ok to terminate them at 35 weeks for the sake of convenience or legal entitlement.
This is like arguing the death penalty…
I don’t want it for jay-walking, but I do want vicious scum like Ted Bundy & Wayne Williams to fry.
I don’t want anyone getting an abortion “for the sake of convenience” – and especially not late in the term – but I do not oppose all abortions.
RBG #30, you still don’t get it. I have no problem whatsoever with your opinion of the fetus, or any justifications you may have to do whatever to your own body. You should have the same respect for others.
Unplanned and unwanted pregnancies will continue to be a fact of life as long as life exists.
Kudos for Bill Gates and Warren Buffett. They are heros for the incredibly generous, unselfish, humanitarian example they’ve set.
>Third world family planning encourages protection from transmitting >life-threatening sexually transmitted diseases like AIDS.
Then you really don’t know what third-world family planning is like. Many of the people there forgo vaccines and other treatments for fear that they’ll be given sterilizations as well by those UN people who just know it’s better for them to not have starving children in poverty.
33. I don’t get it? Try reading again: “sake of convenience or legal entitlement.” I’m all for respect for others. Whether they are unwanted overdeveloped people (ie: old) or unwanted underdeveloped people. And if you think unborn children are not their “own body” try performing a DNA test which is conclusive enough to send people to the electric chair.

Your “opinion” is that a fetus is a person. You are fine to think that, but your “opinion” has nothing to do with my rights.
I’m not disagreeing that af fetus is part of the body. So is a finger. The fetus has no conscienceness to speak of, unless you can tell me of your first hand experiences between conception and 6 weeks into pregnancy.
On the other hand, you partake in the murdering of consious life unless you are a vegetarian. Cows, pigs, chickens all experience fear. They instinctively know self preservation.
But that’s just another “opinion”. You’ve got tunnel vision like most of the other hypocrites who stand in the way of humanity. If you are so bent on controlling someone, try controlling yourself.
Fortunately my opinion has science on its side. Again: DNA test. This is no finger or any other part of the mother’s body.
Do you want me to tell you of my first-hand experiences of my daughter after 8 weeks gestation? You think my daughter was unconcious? You think a foetus at 9 weeks is any less alive?
Part of the problem is equating the worth of humans to animals and choosing to discard the intrinsic, moral value of human life in favor of power politics. Of course, I wouldn’t want to stand in the way of humanity.
How’s that for controlling myself?

Correction:
Missed a “2”: 28 weeks gestation. 29 week foetus.

That’s fine for you and your daughter. Fortunately for her she was wanted. But if you want to dictate to everyone who, through any number of circumstances, can’t or simply don’t want to care for the child, then if you you want to stop those abortions, I expect you to step up and take responsibility for those lives when they are born. I hope you have tons of money and a very big house.
I see you didn’t give me a first hand account of your stay in the woumb.
In fact there are long waiting lines of truly desperate infertile couples looking to adopt a newborn. I know of two such couples who went through emotional hell to get one.

Well have some of these infertile couples check out this link.

All these children are waiting to be adopted. And this is just some of the children in Indiana. Each state has their own list. Currently there are over 100,000 children in the US in foster care waiting to be adopted. Oh, what was that? Only newborns? With blue eyes and blonde or light brown hair? No fetal alcohol, drugs, or physical problems? No HIV positive, CF, or Down’s Syndrome? Just the ones that might be passed off as their own biological child? Right !!!
Emotional hell to get one? How sick. A child is not a commodity like a hard to find car. A child is a person, not a “one” or an “it”. Oh, right, I forgot. The anti-choice faction only really care about what is good for them. No damaged goods wanted.

Maybe you could supply a link where there has been a 35 week old fetus that was medically aborted. A fetus would be in the 5 to 7 pound range around that time. That would be way to big to evacuate through the birth canal. To get a baby that size through the birth canal would require the cervix be dilated, but then that would be called induced labor, not an abortion. To surgically open the womb would be called a cesarean, which is not an abortion. Gee, I would really like to see your link to a 35 week gestation abortion.
Now, NO Doctor will perform an abortion at 35 weeks. It is impossible, but I’m sure you will prove me wrong when you post a link. That is hardly considered pre-mature. Even 21 weeks would take a very compelling argument, such as the health of the mother is too critical. More then 21 week (5 months) gestation abortions are rare, accounting for less then 1.5% of abortions. Yet, the anti-choice fanatics would have us believe this happens all the time.

>way to big to evacuate through the birth canal.
Then how are babies born at all?
Which only proves that children can become unwanted at any age, not just when it is convenient.
Nice try on the “one” and “it”. That is really reaching. I guess that shows I don’t care about babies. You caught me. I’ll tell you what, let’s learn from this experience and always refer to the impersonal “foetus” as an unborn child. Still, let me help you out on something: “one” is a pronoun that can mean “being” or “individual.” Your “it” was something you tried to associate with me, I’m sure, by mistake.
I can only speak for the couples I know who adopted. Their children look nothing like the parents. In one case the child is obviously a complete different race. And the parents were thrilled. The world is becoming a much smaller place and no one (sorry about the “one”) hardly cares about mixed marriages anymore or the colours of their children. Certainly not the parents. So I’d say again you are mistaken.
As for the rest of your post, I think we could be on the same plane here. If what you say is true, I’m sure you would have no problem introducing an innocuous law that bans these impossible abortions. Except under your very compelling argument situation. In Canada, the law believes an “unborn child” is nothing until it comes through the the birth canal. How about we introduce this law to take effect at 21 weeks as you indicate?
RBG
I will wholeheartedly support a law that forbids any abortion to take place AFTER the soul has been implanted in the fetus, except for cases with the most dire health consequences. Once we establish a reliable and accurate test for the soul, we should rush to enact this law. Until then, I think we should leave this assessment up to the woman and whomever she wants to bring into her decision making process.
I would also suggest a few things.
EDUCATION.
there are NOT 2 choices, there are a few more. Including ADOPTION, including getting Tubes cut and tied.
too bad we cant do an evaluation of family life, but that is Forbidden. give them a puppy, and see what happens to it in 3-5 years, can REALLy tell you about the family. But, in most of these areas, It would end up EATEN.
#45 ECA, damn straight — if they eat the puppy, don’t let them go through with the adoption.
I’m still laughing over that one 😉
Mmmmmm. Puuuupyyy.
