(Model only — Not a real prostitute)

Senator seeks tax on pimps, prostitutes — Uh, let me see. This is a cash business. People are supposed to already report such earnings. So what’s the point of this bullcrap?

Republican Sen. Charles Grassley of Iowa is hoping to stamp out the sex trade by taxing pimps and prostitutes, then jailing them when they don’t pay.

The Senate Finance Committee is expected to vote Wednesday morning on the pimp tax. The bill also calls for more jail time for sex workers.

If passed, the provision will authorize at least $2 million toward the establishment of an office in the Internal Revenue Service Criminal Investigation unit to prosecute unlawful sex workers for violations of tax laws.

Grassley hates hookers

Well if he paid his bill then he could go back to them!!!

    stupidity in govt rules !!!!!

  2. Angel H. Wong says:

Wouldn’t it be easier to legalize prostitution?

  3. DaveTheWave says:

Let’s see… Prostitution is illegal… We are going to tax an illegal enterprise that “doesn’t exist”… My brain hurts…

  4. ShawnLaasch says:

We tax illegal drugs and have prosecuted and imprisoned some drug dealers (it seems to be easier to prove income of some sort that escaped taxation). This is much like how we got Capone, who was making money illegally.

That said, this is the dumbest idea I’ve read all day. Not a big fan of Grassley. This will encourage sex workers abused by their managers and customers to ignore their health so they won’t be arrested.

Oh, and don’t forget that Grassley just had a chance to vote for a raise!

  5. Uncle Dave says:

It’s legal in most countries here in Nevada. A few years ago, some people in the county where the Mustang Ranch had been tried to get prostitution made illegal again. It was voted down when it was realized doing so would bankrupt the county if it lost the tax money from the brothels.

With all the tax woes in other states and cities, I wonder why other states don’t legalize it. They held their noses to allow gambling, and now can’t live without taxes from that.

  6. moss says:

    1. This is pretty much how and why MaryJane was criminalized. The khristian side of Kongress considered weed immoral — the kriminal side of Kongress wanted to rope some bucks from the trade.

    2. Grassley (!) is running for re-election, this autumn.

  7. spsffan says:

Let’s see indeed. Prostitution is illegal. The tarts and pimps can already be arrested and thrown in jail.

Senator Grassley wants to tax an illegal business.

If they don’t pay, he wants to throw them in jail.

Oh, the logic of the GOP!

If prostitution were legal in the first place, they’d take VISA, MC, Discover, Diners Club(extra charge for that), etc. There’d be records, they’d pay taxes.

Pimping is another story. Should probably be made illegal, but is it really any different from a Hollywood Agent????

  8. Kent Goldings says:

Damn! I guess ala’ cart oral sex just went up…

  9. Mark T. says:

Well, the did get Capone for tax evasion. As for paying taxes, they are damned if they do and damned if they don’t. If they pay taxes, they are admitting to prostitution. If they don’t pay the taxes, it is income tax evasion. Go figure.

  10. JohnnyM says:

@ #5 I didnt know nevada secceeded perhaps you meant counties

  11. art says:

I guess that’s what happens when man’s wife has a headache for 9999 days …. and counting

  12. Allen McDonald, El Galloviejo® says:

    #1, well, U see that’s the whole ( ¿ pun ? )
    point.
The mouth breathing living brain donor Senator didn’t pay the hooker because he heard that hormones play a large part in determining sexual behavior.

So he didn’t pay her because that’s the easiest way to make a hormone.(:-)

  13. Emery Jeffreys says:

All of you have missed the point. Most of the our fine members of Congress, the finest money can buy, exempt themselves from most federal laws.

What we have here is a proposed law that could regulate Congress. I mean they get paids huge sums of money filthy lucre from lobbyists… which essentially makes them pimps for special interests instead of us lowly folks who pay our hard earned filthy lucre money to get a fair shake.

Maybe I got this all wrong.

  14. Mr. H. Fusion says:

As I recall, the Income Tax Act doesn’t mention HOW you earn the money, only that you have to remit so much of it to Uncle Sam as Income Tax. True, Capone was convicted of income tax evasion. In most cases prostitution is a local matter. Income Tax evasion though is Federal jurisdiction and this would allow the Feds to rescue the hookers while at the same time getting Jesus back into their lives.

  15. doug says:

so much for low taxes and keeping big government off the *ahem* back of the small business-owner. lordy, what has happened to the GOP …?

  16. mike cannali says:

Think what this means to Microsoft’s payroll

  17. Grassley dosn’t live in a real world! Every single senator is a millioneer or richer. We need a government that represents the people not special interest groups.

He should Just enact the rico law and screw emm when they catch emmm
In New York and other states the police confiscate the johns and send nasty letters to thier families.

Instead of destroying peoples lives the government role should be to help society. Obviously pimps and prostitutes don’t do what they do out of a want but instead out of a need to survive. Geese I hope they don’t tax that dirty little man that pulls 5 cent cans out of the garbabage.

  18. mary nadeau says:

LOOK OUT GRASSLEY BABY!!!!!!! THE NEXT TIME YOU LOOK FOR A HO DO?????you won’t be lucky????
