White Sox Moment
Ozzie’s slurring topped only by Ozzie’s skating — One of the great mini-tempests is taking place in Chicago where the manager of the Chicago White Sox has lashed out against a local trouble-making columnist (ah) and created a “situation” for the whole city. I love Chicago. Always finding a way to come in second. The city cannot take the attention for long. Amazing.
I keep thinking of a sportswriter who was suspended 30 days, without pay, for a first-case slip of the tongue. I keep thinking of an owner who was banished from baseball, a general manager who was disgraced for life, broadcasters who have lost their jobs. I keep wondering how many other managers and coaches would have been fired for describing someone as “a [bleeping] fag.”
Come on…it’s fricken sports. WHO CARES? Let them say what they want, let them do as many drugs as they want and steroids blah blah blah. This matters not one iota to anyone’s lives other than if you’re a bookie.
Sports teach us nothing. Sports players get paid some of the highest salaries yet contribute nothing back to the community, unless ordered by the court it seems. And don’t tell me about teaching teamwork…that left sports decades ago. It’s about the money and the endorsements. Role models? Please….
Oh, and this story link was written by Jay Marriotti….the same guy that Ozzie called “a [bleeping] fag”. Oh…did ittle Jay get his ittle feelings hurt…bad Ozzie….bad naughty Ozzie. Meanwhile there are real news stories happening in the world.

I remember a time in the ’80s when it was cool to faux-slander your friends by calling them fags, and the coolest shirts had fag-tags on them (the little loop that used to get sewn at the top of the pleat on the back).
Oh, the innocence! I miss “fag”!
It’s not about sports. It’s about prejudice, ignorance and tolerance.
…And that’s how Republicans are able to get the Latin vote, they just need to say “I hate fags” in Spanish and the suckers will vote for them.
I found that pic buried on the Wizbang blog. I think it was shot when they won the Series last year.
As for all this being about intolerance and whatever. I posted this because it always amazes me how sometimes the elements that made something successful in the first place are the same elements of its own destruction.
If this was handled right by Ozzie, he’d make a public apology and leave the ball in the columnists court to pick up.
He already did make an apology, but it wasn’t good enough for Marriotti. It’s Marriotti that’s dragging this out now.
For the record that boy kissing Ozzie is his son. About 10 Cubs fans sent me that shot after the Sox won, several of which had “fag” somewhere in the message.
I understand why it is worng to call Marriotti a fag, is it any different if I call him a c*cksucker?
