Sleep disorder may foretell Parkinson`s

People suffering from a rare rapid-eye-movement sleep behavior disorder are likely experiencing early warning signs of a neurodegenerative disease, according to new research.

Most of the study participants diagnosed with idiopathic RBD — a violent disorder in which people physically act out their dreams — got Parkinson`s, a type of dementia or another neurodegenerative condition within about 11 years.

  1. ECA says:

They have a Drug, still in testing thats SUPPOSED to stop Parkinsons.
    Looks very promising.

  2. Max Bell says:

Hmm. This sounds entirely like me.

I guess I’ll have to ignore it.

  3. Rob X. says:

‘we just keep paying enormous markups on the drugs we all, take, miracles will be accomplished.”

Because drug research is supposed to be done for free of course.

  4. Ann Hadland says:

I have a sleep disorder (I’m 66 yrs old now and used to sleepwalk as a teenager but only rarely now; however I do have violently real dreams). I also suffer from familial hemiplegic migrainous episodes where I lose all feeling and use of left side, have slurred speech, and twisted face. These episodes are largely controlled by medication but I do worry I may end up with Parkinsons – this research seems to confirm my fears. I have been hospitalised several times with these attacks and one consultant did mention Parkinsons in passing but said I had nothing to worry about for years yet. Long-term medication use worries me though.

Thanks for the information, it was very helpful.

  6. Isn’t there any way to prevent parkinson’s disease.
