Notice anything Bill? Nope

Police officers patrolling Oxnard beach run over, kill sunbather — Geez. What a terrible story.

The officers, who were not immediately identified, had stopped on a small berm of sand to observe a swimmer whom they thought was in distress. When they saw the swimmer was fine, they drove over the berm and apparently ran over the woman’s head as she was lying about a foot from the berm’s downward slope, authorities said.

“Given the soft nature of the sand and the size of the vehicle, it would have been easy for them to not sense that they had ran over something,” Feiler said, adding the officers likely couldn’t see Conolly at the bottom of the berm.

  1. Mike says:

This is exactly why vehicles aren’t allowed on the beach in the first place. Idiots.

  2. Bummer, yea, i’m pretty sure that the Police of all people should know better than to run over people’s heads.

  3. gquaglia says:

    Sorry about that

  4. catbeller says:

Bicycles, you lazy sods, ride bicycles on beaches. They can have them electrified if you want some carrying capacity or speed.

Too many cars, too little sense. Cars have killed more people than all the wars in the world combined.

  5. rus62 says:

I feel sorry for the lady who was killed along with her family. She came out to see her son get married and begin a new life while hers tragically ended.

  6. Macrey Thames says:

IDIOTS. We lived in Ventura CA for a year and our experience during that time is that the Police there and in surrounding areas – Oxnard, Rincon, Ojai, could really use some substantial training. They drive wrecklessly and then write tickets for the smallest offenses. Just LOOK at the size of this vehicle – who could see ANYTHING out of this!!?! Anyone who drives a vehicle of this size needs a SPECIAL LICENSE. CDL drivers have them – what’s the difference here?! SAD.

  7. gquaglia says:

Macrey Thames- News Flash, the picture used for this post wasn’t the police vehicle involved. Talk about idiots.

  8. Mr. H. Fusion says:

#7, gg, Two police officers patrolling the beach Monday in an SUV ran over and killed a sunbather, who was in California to attend her son’s wedding, authorities said.

If you are going to drive on loose sand, you usually use large tires. They did have a SUV. What make wasn’t spelled out though. So how the heck can you state that this is not the vehicle or even resembles the vehicle the police used.

    idiot

  9. axe says:

Maybe the sunbathers should use something like those orange bicycle flags or the diver down flags?

I just wonder how many near misses had occurred before at this beach which could have prevented this from happening.?

    The whole thing sucks!

My condolences to the family of the deceased.

  10. Adam says:

I saw this happen. It was at the end of Ocean Blvd in Oxnard. The cops decided it was a good idea to drive their Tahoe onto the beache since they were to damn lazy to run the rest of the way. The worst part is they didnt even realize they had hit her. The locals had to call the police only to get those same yahoos back who hit her in the first place. It was disgusting.

  11. Paul says:

This was originally reported as an unsolved rape / murder when I heard about it a few days ago. That is the worst part. They tried to cover it up.

I live less than two miles from that spot, this is terrifying. I would rather deal with the criminals than the police.

fifty bucks says the law enforcement system that caused this manslaughter will let the perps get off with a few weeks of paid vacation.

    sick.

  12. Shelle says:

This poor woman and her family – my heart goes out to them. Those Police Officers were supposed to be serving and protecting our people not running them over and killing them!!! Were they that lazy that they couldn’t ride a bike? Or better, why couldn’t they take a run on the beach. Instead they opted to take a Sunday drive on the beach! This is so devastating.

  13. Ethan Boyer says:

    Truly a sad story.

That has got to be the biggest BEACH VEHICLE that I have ever seen!!
Why on EARTH would the cops need such a big vehicle?
Someone ought to recomend a STANDARD 4-WHEEL DRIVE!!!!

  14. Mickey says:

Cops are very abusive in general. They break all the laws, go through stop signs, make illegal u-turns, etc, There is something called police sponsored gangstalking and state sponsored gangstalking. There is a book called “L.A. Secret Police” and the author is an ex-cop and he tells how they are trained to be abusive. We have been abused by cops, firemen, elected officials, etc. Why don’t the cops give tickets to all the owners of all the millions of vehicles with no front license plate when California law requires them. Why is it when you call them to report something they say it will take them three days to go check it out. One guy made a video tape of over 30 hours of cops doing illegal things. Parking in front of fire hydrants to go in and have lunch when there is a fire going and the firemen need the hydrant. It was on Primetime tonight.
