The adult entertainment industry is on the verge of making online gaming sexier at a time when mainstream publishers are fighting a political and cultural war over erotic content.

“This is the newest industry and the oldest industry in the world coming together,” said Jezebel, a telephone sex business owner and operator of the virtual Bareback Bordello in RedLightCenter.com, an online game inspired by Amsterdam’s famed Red Light District which is now in testing.

Like popular games such as “World of Warcraft” and “Second Life,” privately held Utherverse Inc.’s RedLightCenter is an online universe that can support thousands of players. Unlike those mainstream games, where virtual sex happens in areas apart from the main thrust of play, RedLightCenter starts with sex.

Customers who pay to visit RedLightCenter can adopt virtual characters called avatars and use them to live out their sexual fantasies, including having virtual intercourse with another avatar.

Brenda Brathwaite, a game designer and professor at Savannah College of Art & Design, says…that such games promise to take the adult industry to the next level.

“Porn is still a passive experience. This gives it an opportunity to be interactive and customisable,” she said.

We all knew this was coming, sooner or later.

    I don’t get it…

Why didn’t they get into this sooner? It’s usually porn and the industry relating to it that are the technological pioneers throughout history that makes people see the practical uses of technology…

I think nearly every article I read regarding the RLC has missed the point. It’s not a game, but a high-tech chat built on a game platform. The whole purpose is to interact with people and simply have fun, be it dancing at nightclubs or getting it on. To expect “levels” or things to be “unlocked” is entering the RLC with the wrong perception of what it is. I’m one of Jezebel’s 2 partners, who, aside from operating the Bordello in the RLC, have our own established phone sex biz. The RLC is an interactive world where, yes, you can play small games, but the intent is the interaction. The creators of RedLightCenter know very well what they are creating here, and it will become something huge. The RLC is going to be more than an adult chat, it’s going to be a world of its own. Store fronts are available to lease for anyone who has a business. Negotiations are under way to bring smoe major businesses into the RLC. Rather than having to get up, get dressed and drive to a place to hang out, you will be able to reach the same goal by entering the RLC. Maybe I’m biased because I have a business venture in RLC, but even before we set up in there, I saw huge potential with it. There’s already been live DJ’s feeds into the dance club, and a live band. We’ve had erotic poetry readings, and I’m sure movie screenings and much more are on the way. I encourage everyone to check out the RLC, as it really is a cool place to hang out. But please, leave your “game expectations” at the door.

  8. Spankings don’t hurt nearly as good in RLC, but for beginners or long distance forays into alternative lifestyles, livings and the cultures… it’s a great place to be 😉

Hey, John… We’ve sure come a long way since my days at Breakthrough Software, haven’t we??? *WICKED WINK*
