Microsoft has released a public beta of Vista. For those of you interested in a copy (they do expire on you) you can download it here and I’ll maintain an open review on the CageMatch forums for users who want to discuss what they’ve discovered and what they think of it all.

this is a good case for ….bittorrent. what ever happened to that hurricane or whatever it was that MS was creating?
I’ve used isohunt for something legal….gosh…why does that make sense?
they posted mac os x for download?

There are torrents floating around already. And, since one still needs to register to get a license key (free, by the way), it seems that BitTorrent would be a wonderful solution.
i’m running 83 seeds / 217 peers off isohunt, 78% done with 38 minutes to go. not bad at all.
this is what bittorrent was built for.
I checked to see what they would charge to snail-mail it to me on DVD, and they want SIX DOLLARS!!!
Please stop laughing, folks. It’s a great deal, really.
snicker snicker
Yeah, I didn’t even know about isohunt until it was recently advertised by the MPAA and RIAA. Pretty neat site!
They’ve done so much to get people interested in downloading this kind of stuff….they’re doing a great service to file sharing in general. Keep up the great work!
It came down for me last night from the MS site – a note of caution though. Even though I have a 64-bit processor I downloaded the 32-bit version because driver support is extremely ropey under 64-bit Vista at the moment, e.g if you have a creative soundcard forgetaboutit 🙁
WARNING!
I tried to download it from M$ yeterday morning – no luck – server overload and I gave up
Same thing early afternoon
Late Afternoon, tried it a third time and was told that I had maximized out the number of certificates and could not proceed to download
I had copied down the numbers and saved the page, but how many people would have?
Guess I gotta go make a new hotmail name
With the overloaded Microsoft servers, even on broadband cable, it took me four hours to download the Windows Vista beta.
However it took FIVE hours to install it!
Took me just under 50 minutes to install it on my system, which was using the upgrade option from XP and not a clean install.
Where do you get your data for statement
“Microsoft Vista requires a minimum of 55 gigabytes on the
hard disk to operate at all”

I just installed on a 36GB SCSI drive & “Properties” for that drive shows me 6.02GB used. It boots & runs fine.
