What is with all these stories of power mad “educators” nowadays? It just never ends.
Class VP arrested after coming late to graduation
For Maquisha Cosey, vice president of Thornton Fractional North High School’s class of 2006, graduation day is not one she’ll soon forget.
And not for any of the sentimental reasons.
It’s the day that Cosey, who was listed on Friday’s graduation program as the leader of the pledge to the flag, was arrested and charged with criminal trespass and disorderly conduct after trying to participate in the ceremony despite being denied entry for being late.
When it was almost over, a parent inside saw her pressed against a window in cap and gown and motioned her to a back door, where the parent and a police officer let her in and told her to take her reserved seat, even though she’d missed participating, Cosey said.
When faculty saw her in the gym, the dean of discipline, David Shrader, tapped her on the shoulder and said she would be dealt with afterward, Cosey said.
And as students filed out, Cosey, who is heading to Baker College in Muskegon, Mich., to study physical therapy, was corralled by police. She says Evans then asserted he wanted to press charges.
Cosey was hauled off in a police car, her parents unaware until told by her friends and other parents.
Dean of Discipline? Has it come to schools being prisons needing such a position? Is this guy a former Marine drill sergeant or prison guard who hadn’t busted a head lately? Cripes!

If you want a sense of today’s school environment read the onerous student handbook which includes punishment for not wearing school ID tag. And, if you check out page 35, you’ll notice section IV.C. “The school has the responsibility to see that due process is practiced at all times and to insist that the individual rights of all students are preserved.” Insert derisive laugh here.
Something tells me that this guy will be looking for a job very soon. The public outrage will be too much around the school to let this slide.
Oh, and expect the charges to be dropped. Probably by today. No way will this stand.

umm, was everyone else in the overflow room arrested for trespassing? It does not look like it, so it would not appear she was arrested for merely arriving late.
she probably made some kind of ruckus and they called the cops, and instead of letting it drop, the school decided to be hardasses about it. yet more overreaction to something that would likely have been dealt with informally by a sane school administrator …
Hmm if I ever have kids, home schooling is sounding better and better…
“What is with all these stories of power mad “educators” nowadays?” you ask. People like Dwayne Evans always think of themselves as having more authority then they really do. In my experience school administrators like to throw the book at every kid for every little incident they find regardless of the situation. They always claim they are “sending a message”. That’s B.S. If you are always sending a messgae then it obviously isn’t working. That line of reasoning is just aweful.
I don’t think this applies in this case but blame the parents and lawyers for the root cause of much of this administrative insanity. School boards are constantly being sued by parents on the most trivial of slights. If the administration does not follow the strictest implementation of the rules they are immediately sued for favoritism or discrimination. It costs them thousands and thousands of dollars but they prohibited by the courts to share event the fact they are being sued.
I think that this case should give all who read it and see this gentleman’s picture a cause to celebrate.
After all we now have solid proof that Assholes come in all shapes, sizes, colors and sexes.
This is yet another example of small people in jobs that give them some level of power and that power is then abused. It seem to happen very often with government employees, be they teachers, police or the DMV.

This is why we can’t get young people excited about the construction of a police state in the U.S. They spent 12 years of their lives in prison, with dogs in their crotches and peeing in cups on command.
Freedom isn’t something in a pledge. You have to be trained to it. We’ve raised generations of whipped dogs and expect them to understand the rights of man according to Thomas Jefferson.

You are powerless. You will do as I say, or I will use whatever power is at my command to hurt you. You are a flea. If you do what you are told you may grow up to be a power and hurt fleas — but not today.
I’d add a thought here, that psychopaths and others with power issues do wind up in positions of authority. Mean bastards seek power. A hell of a lot of them wind up in the Executive Branch.
A lot of high schools now have a Dean of Discipline, it starting to become a fairly commonplace feature either that or a Vice Principal who is just in charge of discipline. At most high schools you have a Vice Principal for each grade and then one for Discipline, some schools call their principal’s deans, just semantics there.
i was at the graduation and this girl made a rukus. the graduates were suppose to be there at 5. i was there at five after driving 5 and a half hours from missouri to see my sister graduate. so why wasn’t she? if she had kept her mouth closed when someone finally let her in then there would not have been such a big thing. if this was such a big day, why didn’t she have her blouse taken care of the day before or couple of days before graduation? the principal and every body was right. my older sister could not get in when she arrived at 6pm and cosey should not have gotten in. rules are there for a reason. getting arrested was a little out of hand, but some type of discipline was nesscary. she was suppose to be there at 5, but she came at 6:10. hands down she losses case over!
