Associated Press – May 31, 2006:

Move over ketchup, mustard and mayonnaise. Turns out the hottest new sandwich condiment is more meat.

At least that’s the case for Hardee’s, the St. Louis-based burger chain that unveiled its Philly Cheesesteak Thickburger in April. Hardee’s is part of Carpinteria, Calif.-based CKE Restaurants Inc., which announced Wednesday that same-store sales were up 5.6 percent for the four-week period that ended May 22.

And the biggest selling premium sandwich, according to Hardee’s chief of marketing Brad Haley, is the 930-calorie, 63-grams-of-fat Philly Cheesesteak Thickburger.

“It seems like it sort of captured people’s imaginations,” Haley said. “One of our theories is that one of the most popular hamburgers in America is a bacon cheeseburger, and this is one of the few times people have been able to get some other kind of meat as a condiment.”

OK, I give up. Compared to this, smoking is a healthy habit.

Now where’s the PeTA hordes tossing blood at customers?

I’m amazed by the mileage Hardee’s/CKE is getting out of this Philly Cheesesteak Thickburger in the press. Bacon cheesburgers and chiliburgers topped with pastrami have been available in Los Angeles area burger joints for as long as I can remember. I once saw something called Colossal Burger, which was described as a double meat chili cheese pastrami burger with bacon. I’m sure that a responsible dinner would order a Diet Coke with that.

You missed out on the Monster Thickburger, which is 1410 calories and 107 grams of fat.

You’d need two Diet Cokes to undo all that badness, right?

Maybe there should be a bun made from hydrogenated bacon fat.

I don’t think Hardee’s has any sites north of the 49th at least that I have seen. We do have Harvey’s though. The double bacon cheeseburger. It’s a thing of beauty. 2 flame grilled 6 ox patties of Canada #1 beef (grilled where you can see the cook), 2 slices of cheddar, 4 slices of bacon. Choice of toppings include, onions, lettuce, dill pickle, hot banana peppers, tomato, mustard, relish, mayo and a couple of other things.

I have no idea what the numbers are but when fully assembled it feels like a pound. Wear a bib.

A thread about the greasiest meal I ever had would be entertaining.Make someone puke, win a t-shirt.

Just finished one of those philly steak burgers. YUM. hardees are called “carls” out west. O I am not over weight at least according to my doctor. but I do work out and have a physical job. It is not the food it is kiling people it is the the lack of exercise .

Put it between two donut slices, that way you can get your sugar even if you dont order a milkshake …
