Fox analyst

With all the evidence accumulated by now, even the most stubborn observer should at least concede that a lot of the ice on this planet seems to be melting for some reason.

This weekend on the show “Cashin’ In,” Fox News analyst Jonathan Hoenig asserted that global warming was “bogus,” and “dreamed up” by environmentalists to stop economic development:

“There’s no scientific proof that global warming even exists. To be honest, it’s a bogus consensus dreamed up by Greens because they hate industry. They hate advancement. They hate technology…Greens will lead us back to the stone ages.”

Why does Fox always ridicule those they disagree with instead of addressing the facts of their argument?

  1. Because global warming doesn’t exist..

The earth is heating up because it does that. hundreds of years ago people said it was getting so cold there would be an ice age.

Stanford had some scientists a couple of years ago look at it and they concluded in an article that there was a mini ice age in the 1800’s, places like Iceland got majorly cold. Scandinavia had thousands of people die. Now its heating out of that event.

    Google the article.

  2. ECA says:

i would rather a debate, and then MAYBE a percentage list of Scientists that AGREE to WHICH side is correct.

the statement…We dont KNOW how the Earth works, and if this is truly happening, or IF we are the case…
to bad we dont have a weather history for 10,000 years of Earth history..It could SHUT them up..

  3. James says:

“Why does Fox always to ridicule those they disagree with instead of addressing the facts of their argument?”

Because it’s easier to make fun of a person or group than it is an issue (particularly one well supported by facts).

  4. Jim says:

John: They do that because you can’t defend against it. Thats like saying “You hate America” or “You’re against freedom”. It can’t be confirmed or denied. You can say “I love America” but inside you could really hate it. It’s no different than saying “You’re a commie”. Outside you might not be but who know what’s going on in the inside (Whether you’re really a commie or not).

  5. Conrad Benedict says:

They do it for ratings moron. And press – like this posting.

I’m amazed how people think these news channels are genuine – evenly genuinely as right or left wing as they make out to be. They play to their demographics. It was probably a green who program managed this show, knowing it would attrack up-in-arms ignoramuses like us.

  6. Conrad Benedict says:

Sorry John – didn’t realise the Moron was inadvertently addressed to you – it’s just to everyone (ie morons!) who actually gets indignated by this sort of press.

  7. Jon says:

I’m not a scientist. However, I do read Popular Mechanics (and I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express), and they’ve had many articles for and against global warming. Yes, it’s debated, but no, neither side has conclusive proof. The report on Fox was probably as biased as any other, though.

  8. JB says:

I don’t debate there is global warming. I think the only debate is wether or not it’s a natural cycle or caused by human activity.

  9. joshua says:

this guy is one of 4 or 5 economic analysts that are on that program every week…..they are there to make outragous statements in support of what ever their position was on what ever the issue of the moment is dealing with the economy. He of course is wrong about no global warming, but right about a few of the mainline enviro groups being against damn near everything.

On Fox news and in a couple of their non-news shows they have talked about global warming and admitted it’s happening, but as someone said above, the argument is on why.

I to would love to see a REAL debate and the number of REAL scientists that have lined up on either side of the *we caused it* and *we didn’t cause it* arguments. What I’m seeing now is that even the *we caused* it group admitting that there is nothing we as humans can do to stop it.

I fall into the group that says *we probably didn’t cause it* but that we still need to make major changes in how we deal with our enviroment, just for quality of life reasons if no other.

  10. Twig says:

We could listen to these goof balls but I’m sure the pentagon is nothing but a bunch of greenies. Or was this article debunked?

The Observer | International | Now the Pentagon tells Bush: climate change will destroy us

  11. ECA says:

    9,
    Agreed…

  12. Mike Cannali says:

“Why does Fox always to ridicule those they disagree with instead of addressing the facts of their argument?”

The guy might be a kook, but he was one of several kooks. each with opposing views presented in the program and Fox news was actually doing what the proclaim – being fair and balanced.

There well may be a real global warming problem, but presenting the issue and providing a dozen “experts” who agree with the report – with no rebuttle – has destroyed the credibility of network news on the issue. By having the “global warming is overblown” expert as part of the open debate – Fox may have actually helped the environmental cause.

At any rate, my Air conditionaing bill goes up every year – due more to the impact of terror on oil prices, than marginally higher summer temps.

  13. Cripes. 90-percent of all the climatologists are all doing planning for climate change. Walk to the college and ask. Nobody knows what to do about it or what is really creating it or if it’s a cycle. But it’s not a load of crap and the idiot “greens” are not behind it. Sheesh. They cannot even walk and chew gum.

AND for those who cannot seem to observe anything..I didn’t do this post!!! Alix did.

  14. Angel H. Wong says:

That reminds me of John Stossel from ABC, he said once that the claim done by environmentalist about the deforestation in South america was a hoax BECAUSE THERE WERE PLENTY OF TREES PLANTED IN THE UNITED STATES.

  15. Anon says:

It baffles my colleagues how Fox News is regarded with any legitimacy in the US. Quite frankly, it’s a laughing stock.

  16. Slimlemon says:

    Right on, John!

I work at the local college, and the climate folks are literally frightened by the positive feedback on atmospheric [CO2] the unprecedented rapid warming is having on CO2 being released by the quickly-thawing tundra in arctic regions.

In your physics class, you may have learned why CO2 and methane are called “greenhouse” gases. When they quickly and significantly increase in the atmosphere, it warms up quickly and significantly. No big controversy with this.

And why the pissing and moaning about the dire economic consequences? This is a potential economic boon for the US. It will stimulate the development of new non-fossil-fuel based energy technologies and new industries – energy, transportation, recycling materials, bio-based, etc. It already is!

Imagine the advantages gained from these technologies by freeing us (US) of dependence on oil from the Middle East.

If you really want to see what’s in store, read Lovelock’s “The Revenge of Gaia” when it’s published here in the US. (Makes Al Gore look like Dick Cheney.)

  17. Mike Cannali says:

Why hasn’t the media focused on this more in non-election years?

This is all a setup for politicizing environmental issues for the next elections. Gore is the undisputed champion of the issue – remember he even won the popular vote once! He is also a more elect-able alternative than Hillary with far lower entrenched negative poll numbers. This is the Achilles heal for Bush, who has dissipated all credibility on the issue.

The real issue is the price of gas. With people living paycheck to paycheck and seeing big oil take away their discretionary spending – even their necessities in some cases – GA$ will be the big issue that builds resentment for the next elections. Resentment fuels a desire for change.

The environmental cures will highlight ethanol as an alternative to imported oil that does not subsidize terrorism and the enemy in the war. The strategy is obvious.

It is about time that green replaces red.

  18. cheese says:

Twenty years ago I asked an aerospace engineer about what he knew about global warming. He told me he believes it exists but it can’t be proven because there isn’t enough climate data to support it. In any case he thinks it pales in comparison to the natural earth cycle. He explained that global warming gives our natural temperature cycle a “5th gear” on an “up” cycle. It’s not a good thing by any means, but is hardly the sole cause of our climate change.

Personally I want someone to make a thermos bottle out of it so the heat coming from my coffee can’t escape.

We really blew it after the last gas crisis. I think I’m done blaming politicians for this mess. Nobody put a gun to our head to use more fuel. I know they aren’t going to lead us out of this mess so I decided to do a little research of my own. I think you should check this out – why don’t we standardize on using Methanol as a first step?
    1) Methanol can be converted to ethanol and other fuels quite easily
    2) Methanol can come from renewable AND non-renewable resources
    3) Methanol can even be produced from CO2 by extracting CO2 from smoke being processed in a fuel cell run in reverse – and the electricity needed can come from a windmill (how about that!)
    4) Methanol can be used as a raw material for plastic and other oil-based products
    5) Methanol is safer than hydrogen for transporting.
The strategy here is to convert our industry, etc. to use methanol. At first, produce methanol from fossil fuels and any renewable sources mixed together. Then begin switching over to making methanol from renewable resources. The logic here is to make the transition as painless as possible to renewable sources of energy by making our machines, engines, industry, etc. immune from becoming obsolete just because the source of the hydrocarbons needed came from a new source. Think of it as the “Virtual PC” of the oil industry – who cares the hardware your program runs on if the “sandbox” looks the same to the operating system?

    Sorry this was so lengthy.

  19. A few years ago there was a Nova on why Antarctica was melting. With much trepidation I watched the show figuring that somehow they would blame the U.S.A. (I think it was during a Fidel Castro appreciation week or something like that) Anyway, the show was very balanced and the final and most logical explanation that they put forward seemed to be that the ice was a vestage from the last ice age (along with Greenland) and much as a large glass of water with ice stays the same temperature as the ice warms and then finally melts, the earth has been relatively stable for the last 10,000 years as the two poles have slowly warmed. They are the last two “ice cubes” and when they melt then the rest of the planet will start to warm. It wasn’t a satisfactory answer but the bottom line was they just didn’t know.

If one looks at this honestly and looks beyond ones short time on this planet, the histrorical record is pretty clear that we are along for the ride. The 1815 explosion of Tambora caused a “year without summer” in the northern hemisphere in 1816. Before the mini ice age started 400 years ago they were able to grow grapes in England yet this last summer was the first time that 100°F was recorded in England ever. Greenland was named Greenland in 1000 AD for some reason. Those famous Flemish paintings showing people ice skating are actually documenting an event that had never been experienced before when their rivers and lakes started to completely freeze year after year.

Don’t forget, these same people were warning us about a coming ice age just a few years ago. These “greens” are just Luddites and communists and have no real agenda except that they hate modernity and the U.S.A.

  20. Awake says:

The most disturbing fact is that the general population watches these people speak as ‘experts’ without questioning their credentials at all. “He is on Fox, and he says so… so it must be true… and I can quote him from now on.” We see it all the time with Limbaugh, a man that makes all kinds of ridiculous assertions, stands behind them as fact and they get accepted as such by the believers.
The fact that Fox has as many viewers as it does speaks strongly about the way America really thinks… we do not want facts, we want statements that agree with our perspective. And Fox delivers exaclty that… no facts and all right wing statements for the right wing believers.
I do not know of a single independent thinking person that watches Fox. Not one.

  21. moss says:

19 — if you weren’t an ignorant head-in-the-sand git, I would presume you’re just a troll for Fox.

On the other hand — don’t feed the troll!

20 — most recent numbers from the Audit Bureau of Circulation state the networks have about 20% less believability than CNN among the general viewing populace. Fox’s numbers are about 20% below the networks.

I realize that’s still not saying much. “Pro” wrestling probably shares it’s viewers with Fox. Otherwise their numbers would be even lower.

  22. Simon says:

Come people, isnt is obvious, the earth is affected by gravity and ultimately being pulled closer to the sun, surely this explains the global warming, changing seasons and why mars is now dried up.
I have my astrofoil helmet on as we speak.

yes we as humans have made an impact on the natural event that is climate change. and now we are making a positive impact by reducing emmissions, it will never fully balance up as the climite changes naturally. (look at iceages , el nino and la nina, ocean currents, molten rock inside the core of the earth – ie: a very unstable planet ) these have been occuring long before we were around to affect the environment..

Dont blame the greenhouse gasses, blame the midgets for not contributing as much methane and taking a higher moral stance, blame the seagulls for everything else and then blame the politicians for scaring global warming into the hearts of little kiddies who only want to have fun by burning wood and using aerosol cans.

The Earth is changing, deal with it. Do your part and stop winging.
Be realistic but dont be fooled by scientific facts from either side.

And most importantly dont belive me, ask questions to yourself, and question any fact that is simply handed to you by an “expert”.

(Q: what is an expert? A: sometimes just a stubborn iidot relaying old knowledge – thier midsets are rarely open but rather closed and biased toward thier area of expertise. – SB2006)

  23. ECA says:

    A wonder for it all.

Its interesting that the Nomads of OLD, had it right.
Mankind (east european) has always NOT liked change. He sets his home down and expects it to STAY there until the end of time.
But, this is a Dynamic eco system. Its always changing, and Always WILL.
Man, Hates mother nature, and ALL her randomness, but he is also an Idiot, thinking…”That hurricane will never hit here”(and you live on the Gulf coast)…DUH.
When you live on a Flood plain(mississipi river) EXPECT to be flooded.
Live in California, expect Earth quakes.
Live on a Hill side in a WET area, Expect mud slides.
Live on the Coast, expect Storms.

why do you live in a Pre-fab/modular home, in Tornado ALLEY, when you KNOW you should be in a ROCK house, or UNDEr ground.
I aint paying my insurrance money, for some OTHER idiot.

  24. Anon says:

“You hate the U.S.A.”. Does this ALWAYS have to be the punchline? Jeepers.

  25. joshua says:

#20 Awake….have you ever watched Fox News? They are as accurate as any other news source, the thing that you apparently can’t handle is that the news is delivered from a less leftist perspective than the other cable news sources. Fox News isn’t the most watched cable news because it just spouts (as you say) right wing non-facts. If it did that it would be the LEAST most watched news site on cable.
And if you don’t know any independent thinkers that watch Fox….then you apparently don’t know ANY independent thinkers. What’s *independent thinker* in your book? Someone who gets all their news from ABC, NBC, CBS, CNN, or MSNBC apparently, where the left point of view dominates.
A true independent thinker watches all of the different perspective they can get and then proceeds to dig up the facts themselves.

#21….Moss……don’t those numbers sound a little fishy to you? If Fox News was so unbelievable then that means that the most watched cable news is being watched for it’s lies. Wake up dude!! CNN is a distant 2nd amoung cable news watchers. While it has it’s good points, there are obvious reasons why it’s second.
Is the only way you can make your point by making those who don’t agree with you sound like pigs in swill. You better add almost all the Liberal politicians in the U.S. and Britain to those *good ol’ boys* watching Fox News, because not only do they watch, they fight to get on the programs. They know it’s watched by millions more people than any other cable news, and they know they can get their point across fairly and accuratly to an audience that may not usually listen to them.

The closed minds here are actually you and Awake.

  26. AB CD says:

Fox had another special on global warming that was one-sided in favor of global warming, we’re all doomed etc. I guess this was their response.

  27. Pterocat says:

You know what I think about the bloated human race and it’s “too many people with too many problems” problem?

I think of it as being like the red giant star Betelgeuse, which is reported by astronomy folks to be on the verge of going supernova… it could happen tomorrow, or a million years from now. I’ll bet that at the rate things are going, humanity will eventually come to some kind of end as well, be it a bang or a whimper (possibly just from just fucking each other too much with sex and/or violence)… but speculating on just when that will happen is like trying to predict when Betelgeuse will blow up.

Unforeseen events/conditions could potentially throw some kind of curve into it all, too. Might as well just make the best of it, enjoy the ride if you can.

Speaking as a peace-loving individual who hasn’t been laid in years, I even might now count myself as someone who is actually doing something about it. But then again, that may not be worth a fiddler’s fart in the grand macro scheme of things.

(They say if Betelgeuse goes off, it will turn the night sky a shade of daylight blue for a few weeks. Nice fireworks!).

  28. Rube says:

Global warming is a crock. Here in Europe, we haven’t had a decent summer since 2003, when all the old people died in France. Since then, it’s rarely gotten above 75 degrees. This winter was one of the coldest on record, and we had unbelievable amounts of snow. Over here, that started calling it ‘climate change’ instead of global warming once it was obvious that it was actually getting colder. But who are you gonna believe? Al Gore or your lying eyes?

  29. ECA says:

    18,
Methanol, is wood alcohol..has nothing to do with Ethanol which is plant based, including corn, and grains.. Almost anything green, including MJ will convert to Ethanol..And MJ as well as Cudzu are VERY fast growers..

    27,
the end will come when there are to many HERE to be handled by the ecosystem, and we get tired of living NEXT to each other.

I just dont like those in the market place saying, “THIS is better” “buy this”, and it dont WORK… I live in a rural area, and there is a Stone school house, not far away…Its been standing for over 100 years, with few modifications, like a steel roof, and electricty, plumbing, and such.
Do you think yours will be there as long?? and cause less impact??

  30. Miguel Correia says:

    Rube,

Here in Portugal, we’ve just seen a very strange winter, snowing were it isn’t supposed to snow (imagine it snowed in Florida), and this weekend, we’ve seen precisely the opposite, excessively warm days accompanied by a mosquito invasion. It is still too early to have days with 38º C temperatures like we had.

The ‘climate change’, even if it feels colder is in fact a consequence of global warming. Many climatologists claim that global warming will lead to another ice age.
