Associated Press – May 12, 2006:
A suburban Chicago pastor has been charged with misdemeanor battery after he allegedly spanked a 13-year-old girl with a piece of wood because he thought she was lying about being sexually abused by a relative, authorities said.
Officials said they believe the girl’s allegations of sexual abuse are true.
Yet the Rev. Daryl Bujak, the pastor of the First Missionary Baptist Church, struck the girl then 12 years old hard enough to cause bruises and welts on her legs and buttocks, according to Elgin police.
The mother said if she could do things differently, she would have listened to her daughter and believed her instead of taking her to Bujak, her family’s pastor at the time.
Gee mom, you think?!

One should judge a religion like an Olympic sport — throwing out the extremes.
I’ve met THOUSANDS of baptists and I’m pretty sure all of them would be horrified by this.
Yay for religion. :tired of the crap:
20/20 “hindsight”, maybe?
Bastard!
We tell children that if someone is doing something wrong to them that they should tell their parents, their pastor, their teacher or counselor– some adult they can trust. This girl did just that and the child was victimized yet again. This is so reprehensible on so many levels. First, the mom is such a piss-poor parent and unable to believe her daughter that she felt she had to clear the accusation with her pastor. Then this supposed “man of God”– and there are frauds like this hiding under the cloth in every religious sect– perpetuates the abuse further by spanking her? Hopefully, child protective services in Illinois will recognize the considerable problems in this young girl’s life and see to it that the mother gets her head out of her ass. To ignore her child’s plea for help and protection from a relative and to have such poor judgement by ever trusting this pastor says to me she has already demonstrated a pattern of parental ignorance that has jeopardized the safety and well-being of her daughter.
I don’t know if they mentioned it in any of the articles but the person who was abusing her was her stepfather. That’s probably why the mother didn’t believe. Im here in chicago right now and it was all over the news.
The best priest is one WHO LISTENS, then discovers the truth. You dont LEAD with the hand, and abuse your patrons, no matter HOW OLD they are.
Yes, it would probably be fine in some people’s eyes if her step-father had used a piece of wood on her as the ordained minister did instead of using his woody.
When we added abuse by wood and woody to our ‘ Shock and Awe ‘ portfolio,
we gave license to the folks back home to do the same thing.
This chld will suffer carrying the scars of these barbaric, sadistic attacks on her for the rest of her life.
Amen.

Greg (#1) exactly right – there are kooks everywhere hiding behind religion (bin Laden for one)
11, Close, but on this one it is clearly Cheney.
The less dangerous pastors are the dead ones.
Why is everyone believing the worst about the Pastor. The girl went in for the meeting and the mother said she left red faced. She was crying because of all she has been through. Why convict the Pastor when there is no proof of him beating her with a stick. What kind of person would do this. If he believed in spanking then why didn’t he just tell the parents this was their job not his. All of the media is pointing fingers and the only information they are getting is from a mixed up mother. When the truth is learned and we find out what actually happened, I be the media won’t be so quick to jump on the bandwagon and apoligize for there comments. Aren’t we all inocent before proven guilty. I heard the rest of the church is standing behind their Pastor. I guess they know something we don’t!
Don’t join the hanging crowd around the tree and string him up before you know the truth. He would be crazy to talk to the news befor even talking to the police. The response with limited information is a good example of how people don’t want to hear the truth, they want to make judgements on pre-conceived ideas of religion. Especially with all of the problems with the Priest in the Catholic church in the past few years.
Paul
The pastor got himself terminated from his church last month. Why? Will the truth come
out or will it be covered up? Hey media people, jump on this one and let us hear…
