CONTRA COSTA COUNTY / Former prosecutor says new boss stole from firm / On job 3 months, he took suspicions of fraud to FBI

When prosecutor Tom O’Connor left the Contra Costa County district attorney’s office in February for a corporate position, he left behind the extraordinary murder trial of Orinda housewife Susan Polk.

But he soon found himself in the middle of another sordid affair.

Federal authorities say the seasoned prosecutor discovered that the chief executive of his new company — the man who hired him — had embezzled about $1 million to finance a lavish lifestyle that included a Ferrari, Baroni suits, Opus One Cabernet Sauvignon and steroids.

Some alleged victims were Contra Costa prosecutors who invested in the startup, VaporTech of Nevada, which has offices in Livermore and San Ramon.

Vaportech?? His next job opening will be at Scam Engineering or Fake Industries. Inc. Then again, a bigger question is exactly why did the CEO hire someone from law enforcement in the first place?

I wonder if he was trying to make up for shortcomings in his life….

I to have never seen “steroids” and “lavish lifestyle” in the same paragraph describing anyone…

This is the trend that Dennis Kozlowski got his fame for. Give credit to the attorney, he acted like he should have.

I agree Mr. Fusion. While lauding someone for doing what they should do anyway seems silly…….in the present day, it’s almost a damn miracle.

I was presented with the opportunity to restructure Vapor Tech, but was too busy with another company turn-around so I offered the opportunity to “Jack Griffin”. His job was to clean up the company and to fire any and all officers whom were stealing from the company.

I had a hunch that something was wrong when he would not return my phone calls when I was ready to oversee his progress. He knew if I were to come to Vapor Tech or Goodfield, I would have had him arrested immediatelly.

WHAT A PIECE of SHIT!!! Taking advantage of investors whom were investing in a company that was supposed to help mother earth.

I wish I would have known he was a FRAUD, as I would have never turned that position over to him. I guess the only money he will make now is the .25 cents/hr at his prison job. Real smooth “Jack”
