Massive lava ‘fin’ rises up in Mount St. Helen’s crater
A spectacular new structure has formed inside the crater at Mount St. Helens, just in time for this weekend’s opening of the Spirit Lake Highway.
A slab of rock the size of a football field is standing on end inside the crater.
The giant ‘fin’ is pushing upwards of four to five feet a day, but is not growing taller because it tends to crumble as it grows.
Wow!
Phins Up!!!!!!!
Sharks that swim on the land…
That is one amazing image! Wonder what it means though if the thing is being pushed up 4 – 5 feet a day there must a tremendous amount of pressure inside the volcano… maybe, like jaws, it’s a sign of danger coming!
Actually, compared to the presure that blew it’s top off, this is nothing.
Geologically speaking it’s pretty cool, but nothing to worry about.
Hawkeye666, Jimmy Buffet or Chevy Chase? “Candy-gram”
this just way to cool.
Now that is cool, looks almost like a structure under the surface, since it’s so smooth.
Interesting question, Geoff. I meant Buffett, but the SNL reference is a good one as well.
