Hey. John “Gets No Spam.” Don’t you feel guilty (just a teeny bit?) for not getting your fair share?

Nothing really newsy in this, we’re just amazed at the number.

60 billion e-mails a day, much of it spam

BERLIN – Internet users around the world send an estimated 60 billion e-mails every day and many of these are spam or scam attempts, business leaders said on Tuesday.

Deutsche Telekom Chief Executive Kai-Uwe Ricke said cyber criminals were growing more active and sophisticated, and the vast e-mail traffic meant industry, government and Internet users had to be vigilant and work together.

“This figure was new for me as well — worldwide there are around 60 billion e-mails sent every day,” Telekom Chief Executive Kai-Uwe Ricke told an Internet security conference.

“A large percent of it is spam,” Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer added.

  1. Diane Ensey says:

Ten billion of that must say some version of “HOT TEEN GIRLS ARE WAITING FOR YOU”. Those poor girls… they’ve been waiting so long!

  2. SN says:

Diane, you raise a great point. Exactly why are those hot babes waiting?! If they’re hot and horny they could go anywhere and get laid. Thus, either they are not hot or not horny. Mmmm… that’s the last time I spend my good money talking to those cheats!

  3. Framitz says:

The numbers are easy to believe.
Last week my company received 1.86 million emails of which 77.2% was SPAM filtered at the gateway and 1.2% was infected.

  4. blank says:

I don’t get any mail. I have 3 seperate email accounts and I can’t even get a friend to email me, much less spam. I can’t remember the last time I got spam from anyone.

Of course, I have another email account that I use to sign up to on different websites that need a verification. I don’t use that one at all, perhaps I have billions of spam messages waiting for me there.

  5. Greg V. says:

Just checked our organization’s filter and in the last 24 hours 45% of our incoming mail was spam. That’s actually a little low, it’s usually over half.
