I’m not endorsing this retailer, I’m just making note of an interesting bit of Mac history: The first retail version of the Mac-Wintel computer!

At that price, its a pretty good deal.

  2. Simon Zerafa says:

Interesting however is it really a good idea to ship a system like this with a beta software such as Boot Camp and Windows XP?

How much testing of this package can have been done since it was released?

Interesting warrenty issues might arise if bugs or issues are found with the Windows XP / Boot Camp installation.

  3. Mario Dorion says:

Oh! Windows XP is in Beta? … this explains everything now!!

    🙂

    When’s MS gonna file a lawsuit?…

after all, Apple sued over such stupidity as “Trash Can”, and “Look and Feel”.

  5. gquaglia says:

“When’s MS gonna file a lawsuit”

As long as the retailer legally purchased XP I don’t see what they could sue about. Its no different then what Dell and other OEMs do.

  6. Angel H. Wong says:

Does this means that ppl will ditch the macOS and only use XP?

  7. Aaron says:

Was that “photo-shopped” using a Mac, or a PC? (i.e. Have you verified this with the store Dvorak?)

  8. hal jordan says:

think of the mac as a shiny, bejewelled cage and boot camp it a window that shows what is outside of that cage. it’s wild out there and it does not offer any of the securities a cage might have. it seems that for some mac users, being in that cage is no longer enough.

  9. Conrad Benedict says:

Yikes – all these comments from people who don’t actually use a dual boot mac. I got one, and i’m over the hype – i use both OS’ and don’t even blink. They all work, printer drivers everything. It’s actually really cool.
I use Mac for iLife, surfing the web safely etc, and i use XP for playing Oblivion and Warcraft and Office. It’s all nice and convenient, and I don’t get why people are making this out to be such a big deal. Get over it, i have – it works fine, move along.

  10. Jeff says:

I’m a Windows developer. The day they announced BootCamp, I went to the Apple Store at lunch and bought a MacBook Pro. I always wanted a Mac because I edit video, and Final Cut Pro is amazing.

So while Dvorak has been predicting that OS X can just go away, I beg to differ. Since being exposed to it, I never want to use Windows anymore except when I have to work. There’s no comparison. Even though I’m a career Windows guy, it just doesn’t compare. I hate going back to Windows. Without the OS, it’s just high-end hardware.

Remember… Apple is a hardware company, and that’s where they make their money. The margins are in the hardware, not the software. However, that cool hardware needs cool software, and that’s why iTunes sells iPods and OS X sells Macs.
