A rose by any other name may smell as sweet, but for Google China, it is all in a harvesting song.

Google Inc has introduced a Chinese name in the hope it will ring louder to the Internet users in China. Called Gu Ge, which means “a harvesting song,” the name aims to convey the sense of a fruitful and productive search experience, said Allen Wang, Google China’s chief marketing officer for Asia Pacific.

The name was picked from 1,800 combinations of Chinese characters which sound closest to Google gathered from its own search engine, he said at a ceremony in Beijing yesterday.

Uh, OK.
