Most countries around the world are working steadily and carefully to reduce violent confrontation between police and criminals. Once in a great while, there arises a cabal of violent crime that requires a temporary reversal of that policy.

China has a new and notorious gang of purse snatchers and street thieves — called the “hand choppers”.

The…call came yesterday from the Ministry of Public Security. Spokesperson Wu Heping told a Beijing news conference that police officers should be “courageous enough to open fire on violent criminals.”

Wu comments echoed security officials in Guangzhou City who said earlier this month that police in the Guangdong Province capital should shoot dangerous criminals. The Guangzhou official’s remarks were directed mainly at the so-called “hand-chopper” thieves who use motorcycles to steal handbags and sometimes resort to mayhem to separate victims from their belongings.

Wu said that while effective monitoring must be used to prevent firearm abuse, police officers should make guns a key weapon in fighting crime.

“When criminals threaten the lives of citizens and the police officers themselves, our officers can use their firearms – to the death,” Wu said. “This is covered by our laws, and it should be upheld.”

I’ve have friends and family who were — and are — career peace officers. Like most good cops, they’re not quick to rely on their guns. Sometimes they have to.

When you have 1.5 billion people, what is the big deal if police shoot a few innocent bystanders? Communist China never cared about the rights of individuals, why should it start now?

England practices and defends the summary police execution of captured terrorism suspects. Just fyi.

Looks like OT trolls worry about almost anything more than responding to gang violence. So, gangbangers now are “innocent bystanders” or falsely-accused “terrorists”. Bullcrap!

Wow, this increase in crime suprises me. Sadly, it’s probably partially a product of the increased Westernization and capitalism there.

Interesting story – my Dad took a business trip to Beijing about 20 years ago for McDonnell Douglas (China was buying some planes). Anyways, they go out to dinner one night, and to sit more comfortably on the floor, he takes his wallet out and puts it on the dinner table. Of course, he forgets it there overnight. They go back in the morning to find the wallet sitting EXACTLY where he placed it on a now clean table, with zero cash missing. The punishment for theft used to be getting your hand chopped off. Some things just work. I was duly impressed.

More recently, he went back to China on a pleasure trip last year and said designated tour guides are now allowed by the government to accept gratuities. Predictably, tour guides are now becoming a sought after job there…

thats not a correct statement blastum.
If your referring to the Brazlian guy who was shot after the 7/11 tube bombings…..it was overly excited, to aggressive cops. And it sure as hell wasn’t condoned or defended exccept by the head of the police force. Who had to back down.

If your referring to the IRA and the protestant underground groups…that was the policy of the Army at that time.

criminals should be shot dead on sight. no need for trials, that’s just a waste of time. shoot to kill, i say.
