The headquarters office of a senior NASA manager was searched and computer equipment was seized in a child pornography investigation, according to court documents and an online report.

The NASA inspector general’s office served a search warrant on the agency headquarters office of James R. Robinson, in-space propulsion technology program executive, on Wednesday.

A copy of the search warrant on The Smoking Gun Web site said a filter on NASA’s computer system that searches for flesh-colored tones alerted technicians who found 189 images of underage child sexual activity on Robinson’s work computer.

The search warrant also said Robinson’s computer had been used to send movies of child pornography to an undercover postal inspector and used a private account to correspond about pictures.

1st, you have to wonder about the smarts of someone moving porn around on his computer — at work! Watching for porn traffic is one of the primo directives for IT managers.

2nd, I have to chuckle over flesh-colored filters. At least they don’t have to worry about catching a photo of the Big Boss in the White House. I hear that vampires don’t appear on computer monitors — just like they are invisible in mirrors!

  1. Sean says:

The thing that always bothers me about these kinds of things, is now the cat’s out of the bag. Now that people there know exactly what’s being looked for by filter software, no one will be dumb enough (I hope not) to do the same thing.

That means they won’t catch anymore pervs. People will just keep their “hobby” at home, and instead of sitting behind bars, they’ll be sitting in a public park one day watching your children.

  2. Dan says:

Great pic it looks like a an old star trek rerun,am I right?

  3. Don says:

Yes, Dan, old Star Trek. I’m wondering if the image was used because the woman, the lovely Sherry Jackson, was the girl child on the old (old!) Danny Thomas show, “Make Room for Daddy.”

  4. Eideard says:

Yup — to Dan, that is. I wasn’t about to Google for “star trek child porn”.

  5. SN says:

“That means they won’t catch anymore pervs.”

No, the government will simply install the filters on home computers. Getting on the net isn’t a right. The government could put restrictions on it in the same way they do with driving a car or buying a puppy.

  6. Alex says:

What does a still from Star Trek have to do with some guy from Nasa getting nabbed for child porn?

  7. Don says:

Eideard won’t fess up, but the babe in the Star Trek photo (Sherry Jackson) was a kiddie actress on the old Danny Thomas show before she grew up and did hot stuff roles (like in Star Trek) and a layout in Playboy. Google her images. She was gorgeous as an adult. So, kiddie actress to (soft) porn. And why am I wasting time on this stuff?

  8. James says:

ROC! I love him! Oh, the 3/4 naked star trek chick is there too.

  9. Improbus says:

THAT WAS THE EQUATION! — ROC

  10. R says:

The government doesn’t need to install anything on the end-users’ computers. They could just force the ISP’s to hand over access logs of traffic through their systems. Match the IP’s to user accounts and target those users with tools to search their hard drives.

On another note, I had a boss once that was fired for having porn at work. It wasn’t kiddie porn, but still. He had been doing it for months and they caught him when he tried to share it with a fellow manager in a sort of a peace offering. The other manager turned him in. I don’t know WTF he was thinking. LOL

  11. Angel H. Wong says:

Well, he could have done it like me, download b/w smut.

btw, I prefer my smut with middleaged characters, yes, I like old ppl 😛
