Dell has agreed to purchase gaming PC maker Alienware, in a rare acquisition designed to improve Alienware’s supply chain and boost Dell’s standing among PC enthusiasts.
There will be no cross-marketing of Dell and Alienware PCs on their respective Web sites, at least initially, said Jess Blackburn, a Dell spokesman. Some Dell-branded products that Alienware doesn’t sell, such as monitors, might be sold on Alienware’s site, but that hasn’t been finalized. The deal gives Dell a chance to tap into the profitable high-end PC gaming market, Blackburn said. The purchase is not material to Dell’s finances, he said.
Alienware had considered raising capital through an initial public offering, but came to realize that being acquired by Dell would allow it to raise more money and to take advantage of Dell’s supply chain and procurement expertise, [Nelson] Gonzalez said.
I like the quote at the end of article about “Dell reaching up and Alienware reaching down!”
A true gamer builds his own PC and sells graphics cards on ebay every 6 months. DELL and Alienware are dead to me….
Anyone want to buy a GPU?
A few years ago I would have been real upset, but as good as Alienware is they raised prices to take advantage of name recognition. Sorta like nike shoes, and I would just reccomend building your own, with the inflated prices it now costs about the same. If you build your own you don’t need to pay for parts you don’t want anyway.
Hey, I say thumbs up. More of the good computer from Alienware!
When a F****d company buys a good company both are F****d.
These comments so far seem a lot like the ones regarding the post on the rumor that the Dell/Alienware mind meld was in the works. I think #2 is word for word.
I don’t know why some people have their panties in a bunch about this. Too bad, stuff you don’t like happens. Buy a machine from someone else like Voodoo.
Better yet. Build you own!
Gamers will not join Alienware’s descent into the Evil Empire.
I ju$t don’t under$tand why the Alienware owner$ would do thi$.
They bought the name. They’ll just slap the logo on their high end systems. They may throw in a case redesign.
XPS was a joke. I bought a Dell 9300 outlet laptop (watched for bargains) with a faster processor than XPS for $950, while slower, same config XPS (larger video card) sold for $3000+. Dell didnt realize that gamers look at specs, not hype.
