Mr & Mrs Rice share an intimate moment
Two days ago, we asked what you thought about Hillary running for prez in ’08. Now it’s the Republicans turn.
If Condi Rice changes her mind and decides to run, would you vote for her? Or is she too tainted by the actions of her current boss such as the contacts with Abramoff that Bush said he never had, the staggering spending spree the Republicans in Congress can’t bring themselves to support anymore, the reductions in freedoms enacted, and so on. Oh, yeah. And the war she supports but few others in the country support anymore.
If not her, who would you rather have run?
Rice still says no to boosters of ’08 run for president
Despite Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice’s continued and firm denials of interest in seeking the presidency in 2008, many Republicans view her as a dream candidate and hope she changes her mind.
Rice was the top choice for the party’s presidential nomination in a poll taken at the California Republican Convention in San Jose last month, and she has consistently landed at or near the top of national and state polls about the 2008 GOP race. A group trying to draft Rice for the White House travels to major Republican events, touting her presidential timber while hawking campaign buttons and bumper stickers that they’re having trouble keeping in stock.
Thomas: I was talking about Condi running as a moderate. She would have to both run as a moderate and distance herself from the Bush adminstration to peel off a significant amount of the black vote, and I don’t think the latter is possible. She still might if she pushes the moderate angle really hard, but then she endangers herself in the primary. Look how Giuliani was once their hero but is now trying to veer right because he may not make it out of the primaries otherwise.
I still say Clarence Thomas shows a black conservative still won’t necessarily be popular. However, Colin Powell shows a black moderate conservative can be. A black conservative might still get some small boost regardless, but I think her close association with the Bush administration will erase that.
I do think Edwards may have fared better, but not because he was southern. If he took all the same positions as Kerry, had the same muddy, uninspiring way of talking, and was subject to the same attacks from the Bush campaign, I don’t think he would have done significantly better. Being from the south wouldn’t override, say, a swift boat attack.
jesus christ she looks like a mutant.
The amount of vitrol spent on Hillary, Condi, Colin and others in these comments suggests very little real thought spent on the question. Psudo-political ramblings aside, if hate is the only way we can pick a president something is very wrong.
The electorate is driven more on who NOT to vote for than who would be the most deserving of election. I am not sure if this is a reflection of the poor quality of possible runners in the election, or poor quality of the voters. Real discussion of issues isn’t allowed.
What ever, it would good to remember: “We get the Government we deserve” in this country. The arguments above serve to instruct us on why we have what we have!
John McCain in ’08!
