The number of people online in China is growing fast
There was a buzz in the internet community last week after the People’s Daily, widely regarded as the most influential newspaper in China, published an article in English announcing changes to that country’s domain name system.
Some of the technology and management procedures in the article are interesting — because they apparently work — while previous attempts failed to satisfy both national and international internet systems.
The article dwindles off into the political side of “what-ifs” that provides absolutely no indication of any real problems.
and if ICANN doesnt link to the “chineese internet” (via the DNS/root servers), then it’ll just be a fluke, and a waste of money (or whatever the chineese equivilent is)
Not too different from the same fears — back when — when the Brits started up with .co.uk.
I love the headline “end of the internet” I’ve seen one of those about every three months for the last ten years.
