A recent University of North Carolina graduate was charged with nine counts of attempted murder Saturday, a day after authorities say he drove through a popular campus gathering spot in an attempt to avenge Muslim deaths.
Derek Poarch, chief of the university police department, confirmed Saturday that Mohammed Reza Taheri-azar, a 22-year-old Iran native, told investigators he wanted to “avenge the deaths or murders of Muslims around the world.” Poarch would not provide any other details on the motive.
Taheri-azar also is charged with nine counts of assault.
Taheri-azar, who called police to surrender and then awaited officers on a street two miles from campus, is cooperating with investigators, Poarch said. The FBI has also interviewed him, but Poarch said he did not know whether he would be federally charged.
Taheri-azar graduated from the university in December after studying psychology and philosophy. Investigators believe he has spent most of his life in the United States, Poarch said.

Lots of universities have Middle East groups that aggresively proselytize jihad against Israel and the like. Remeber your Floida Comp Sci professor who was acquitted? Throw in leftist professors who are quick to blame America for everything and it’s not too surprising that a few students will be recruited for terrorism.
Also don’t forget about Johnny Walker Lindh the American who joined the Taliban. He was from far right hotbed of Marin county.
Guess what bothers me is that despite being in the US, this guy obvious has deeper social conditioning via his religious beliefs that says it’s OK for Muslims to kill innocent people for revenege … and to steal their property (see the story on bin Laden and his agony aunt counselling to would be terrorists).
What is it about this religion that makes it OK to kill innocents in revenge? The Buddhists don’t do it, the Jains certainly don’t, niether do the Sikhs, Hindus, Shinto, etc. etc. Only Muslims. Answer that and you have the core cultural clash between us (i.e. non-Muslims) and them – and why we need to make sure this nutcase religion is quarantine until some enlighted mullah decides that rational though is as valid as medieval supersitiion and converts them en mass to a Islamic enlightenment.

The problem is the groups that preach jihad on campus. The leftist professors add to the climate. The comp sci professor I referred to was the guy who was acquiited that was posted here. He was a jihadi that managed to beat the rap.

Many people on the right are nothing more than plain old conservatives, without the religious stuff.
Leftist elite in this country usually aren’t do’ers, they are abetters. They don’t preach jihad, but they are apologists for anyone or any group that is anti American. Be it Palastinians, or Arabs, or the criminal element on the streets, there is hardly anyone they won’t stand with against the system of goverment that we have. Good or bad.
Far right or far left are alike as far as I’m concerned, not in their philosophy obviously, but in their methods. Extreamism is extreamism no matter which end of the spectrum your on.

Well objecting to colonialism, and bashing American imperialism are 2 things that are in common with Arab Muslims. Usually leftist professors also bash Israel, like Noam Chomsky. See the faculty drive at Harvard to disinvest from Israel.
