Tragically unhip take pride in their lack of ‘people skills’

CHICAGO (AP)Maybe it’s because young computer gurus are now enjoying the millionaire life. Perhaps it has something to do with the unexpected popularity last year of the movie Napoleon Dynamite, about a quirky, dancing teen and his sleepy Idaho town.

Whatever the reason, being a nerd, a geek, a dork — whatever you want to call the tragically unhip — is becoming a source of pride.

Increasingly, people are parading around in shirts that say “Dork Pride!” among other things. Such items have gotten so popular that CafePress.com, an online merchandiser, has created a special category for shirts and other items celebrating geeks, dorks and nerds.

So how many readers out there are willing to stand up and be counted among this underclass?

Steve, only a dork would say something like that…oh wait..

  2. david says:

I’m not really a geek, just a tall, dark and handsome guy stuck in a geek world because I don’t want to be part of this world in its current state. But I have had plenty of girlfriends (about 20 medium to long-term relationships) and about 100 different female sex partners (many one night stands). And I’ve been married. From my experience (and I know no one will agree with me–namely because you don’t have the experience) I’ve learned that the only reason I need a woman for is ONLY ONE thing: sex. Before, I get a lot of flack, I do have another need which is for both sexes: the need to love another human being. I don’t even need love back. Only children need love. I am a man. I don’t need love, but I do need sex (and actually with good reality porn, I don’t even need women for that either). So for me to combine sex/love with a single woman she must be higher than me (eros).

Problem is, I am at God’s level of consciousness (I rank higher in power than any living man on this planet, though I am powerless) , the only type of love I have is that like Jesus Christ’s: agape.

It makes me lonely sometimes. I didn’t choose to be God.

No matter, jocks will still beat the hell out of us.Someone should beat the hell out of god above me.

  4. Paul says:

Oh please not another guy with a really cool internet alter ego. “Dude, I’m so cool I can’t date chicks.”

  5. laineypie says:

what the hell does that guy’s ego have to do with being a geek?

I don’t have to “stand up”, most people already count me as a dork. 🙂

  7. Oni says:

    “O, Captain! My Captain! ”

  8. Tod says:

“Gamers across the world rose up in protest, and then sat immediately back down, panting heavily.”

(I forgot where I stole it from… otherwise, I’d give credit)

  9. Jon K says:

What’s funny about these kinds of shirts is that soon all the edgy emo and ‘indie’ people will start buying them and everyone who really does watch Star Trek obsessively and think anime chicks are hotter than real girls are once again ignored.

It’s a fad waiting to happen. I lame fad.
