Two federal air marshals scheduled to appear this afternoon on drug conspiracy charges are accused of smuggling 15 kilograms, or 33 pounds, of cocaine for $4,500 per kilogram, the U.S. Attorney’s Office said today.

Air marshals Shawn Ray Nguyen, 38, and Burlie L. Sholar III, 32, both of Houston, were arrested Thursday at Nguyen’s Houston home, where an informant had delivered the cocaine and $15,000 in “up front” money.

The question always remains, who watches the watchers?

From Texas………..both of them! King George, Dick “Shotgun” Cheney, and now this. What did the fine state of Texas ever do to deserve this much crap?

in the interest of full disclosure, I am married to a little blond cowgirl from Lubbok Texas. Go Red Raiders!!

  2. gquaglia says:

And in other news, a teacher is charged with having sex with a student, a doctor for writing precriptions to feed his drug habit, a auto machanic for charging for unnecessary repairs and a politician for being corrupt. The point is EVERY profession has bad eggs, law enforcement or government agencies are no different, despite how some around here may wish it to be so.

  3. James says:

I love the few bad apples excuse! Actually may be true, but any time anything goes wrong, it gets trotted out immediately.

These are presumably the same air marshals who shot a non-threatening and unarmed man whose wife was yelling that he hadn’t taken his medication, right?

  4. moss says:

gq — no different? That’s part of the problem. People accepted for a role in law enforcement should be held to a higher standard. If that requires better training and higher pay, so be it. They certainly don’t need “average” excuses.

  5. J. Cottrell says:

Amen Moss. I was listening to NPR this morning and a police chief was defending the character of to policemen who were cited in an abuse scandal. He simply defered to other parts of their present/past lives. One of the men had coached high school football for 12 years and “helped many African Americans get into college.” So what???? Does that make up for other African Americans getting senslessly beat?

The worst part of it is that law enforcement that breaks the law will, at the very worst, be terminated, at least most of the time. What about being arrested under the same laws as everyone else? Same case for pedafile priests. Just move them elsewhere when they should be locked up….

Yes, and I went an added my remarks..thanks!

  9. gquaglia says:

    # 3 and #4 both of you are living in a dream world. We are all human with all the problems and frailities that go with it. To expect law enforcement to be beyond reproach is utopian and unrealistic. While screening for the job is tough, some do and always will slip through. And #3 you really don’t know what you are talking about so shut the hell up.

  10. Paul says:

Let’s just arm all the passengers in true yankie doodle style! Wild West air travel.

  11. spsffan says:

Well, if we stopped trying to fight the “war on some drugs” and concentrated on ensuring safe air travel instead, there wouldn’t be a stroy, would there?

And they wonder why people distrust law inforcement!

    DAve

  12. Well obvious the war on drug is important enough to fight, however if we did allow free drug use in the country then something elese would be smuggled.

People distrust law enforcement because of bad experience!
    One cop represents all cops
A large percentage of cops are prejudice, un professional. Some feel they are above the law. On the other side of the coin thier are some good cops dedicated to helping people.

  13. Mr. Fusion says:

    Richard,

Very good point, there are a lot of very good cops. And lucky for us, they are not only on TV.

The one that really bothers me are the cops that feel they are above the law. The cops that swore an oath to defend the Constitution but now feel it is an impediment to removing the scum from the streets. The cops that think a Police State is fine. The cops that feel they are above reproach.

Thankfully they are not all like that.
