Local lawmen in remote west Texas came face to face with ten armed men wearing what appeared to be Mexican army camouflage uniforms who came to the aid of one of three suspected drug dealers’ vehicles when it became stuck in the riverbank of the Rio Grande, law enforcement officials said today.
Ok, here’s the strange part:
Agent Andrea Simmons of the FBI in El Paso told 1200 WOAI news the bureau is ‘aware’ of the incident but is not investigating.
But what’s to investigate? It’s an isolated incident, right?
Gonzalez says this is ‘not an isolated incident.’
Gonzalez elaborated on several similar incidents which have happened along the Texas Mexico border recently, all involving men wearing what appeared to be Army uniforms armed with automatic weapons, who appeared to be helping drug smugglers.
Update: Here’s another view of the story from MSNBC. Mexican officials are claiming the men are not from the military. But Homeland Security admits that such incursions have occurred, but considers them mistakes based on confusion as to exactly where the border is. Apparently, the Rio Grande is not a sufficient landmark for the Mexican military.

A foreign army comes and goes across your boarders and that is not a National Security threat. Is there anyone left in Washington D.C. that has a working brain?
I live in San Antonio (where your photo was taken) and i know that these smugglers pretty much do anything they want in south texas. Law enforcement doesn’t stop them, and i’m not sure they even try. They are all way more armed than any law enforcement so why should they get tangled up in that mess. The war on drugs is about as successful as the war in Iraq.
The war on drugs has just become a way for various federal agencies and the military to secure funding. Legalize and tax the Hell out of it. You could then close about half the prisons also. There will always be abusers and victims of abusers. It’s the nature of the beast.

I remember when I lived in San Diego about ’94, it was a juicy scandal when a car thief caught red-handed turned out to be a Mexican cop, and then it was discovered that a bunch of cars stolen from California were parked in the driveways of a bunch of POLICEMEN in Tijuana.
Arrrgh! This makes me crazy! I cant fly from Hartford to Baltimore without being ordered out of my shoes, having my cigarette lighter confiscated and generally being put through a process very much like an arrest. But an actual ARMY with real GUNS invades our country for the purpose of helping drug dealers and the feds arent interested???
I can’t believe anyone in their right mind resists the idea of a very large very impeneretable wall along our southern border.
So what do you expect the feds to do? Invade Mexico? Mexico has already denied that they are members of the military. So should we send agents into Mexico so that they can confirm that armed men are indeed helping drug smugglers? (Uh, is this news to anyone?)
I suppose there is an outside chance our agents could prove that these were indeed members of Mexico’s military. So Mexican officials act shocked and immediately discharge them from the service.
Certainly this is worth another tiff with our neighbor to the south.
Like we don’t already have a full plate with Iraq, Iran, and North Korea.
They should just topple the government and force them to build their own country (Shocking idea)

It is not that I don’t believe this report. I don’t know and only have the reports here to go by. Just to add one comment though, you know, to try and keep things in perspective.
Across this country are several “schools” where “right wing militias” go to run around and shoot guns. The pictures I’ve seen show them all dress in camouflage and using automatic weapons. They looked close to being “real soldiers”. Apparently, many of these “students” are former military personnel. Now, is there any reason that similar armed men could not be a Mexican version of these”defenders” instead of true Mexican soldiers.
Heck, the last time anybody invaded Indiana was back when General Early and his Confederate Cavalry visited during the Civil War.

but armed incursions into the country are not a priority.
I suspect that raising a rucus about anything involving Mexico is off-limits because: THEY ARE THE ONLY ALLY OF ANY TYPE WE HAVE LEFT IN ALL OF LATIN AMERICA. Every other country down there either hates us or is our outright enemy.

I must take Steve’s side on this. You appear to be more concerned with the evils of foreign countries then what is going on within this country.
Mexico is overtly encouraging their nationals to illegally enter the US. They even assist them. Most of the illegal drugs entering this country are coming in from Mexico and Mexico is doing nothing to stop it.
What do I expect the government to do? Protect our borders !!! The Border Patrol is under manned and overwhelmed. Maybe they could hire some more agents? Our troops are stretched past the breaking point. They can’t even take care of their own supplies in the field, they had to source it to the private sector so they could have enough soldiers in the field.
I expect the government to do what is right, get out of Iraq. They could do away with the Afghani warlords and allow that country to democratizes. They could uphold the law and go after those who hire illegal workers. They could deport those found crossing the border right away and incarcerate those found further from the border instead of giving them a ticket with a notice to appear. They could put more emphasis on the drug importers instead the medical marijuana users.
To do nothing is only supporting Bush, his illegal actions, and his phony war in Iraq. To do nothing is to watch the middle class disappear until everyone is fighting for the chance to flip burgers. To do nothing is to only encourage the corrupt Republicans to continue to enrich themselves on your tax dollar.
Our government is run by self agrandizing bozos that would rather have the quality of life go to shit than say or do anything that could be considered un-p.c. all that it would take to end this insanity is a tamper proof social security card and heavy fines for the vermin (like Tysons) who hire illegals. I moved back to Austin after a 20+ year hiatus. I remembered it as the perfect city. The quality of life in Austin sucks now because in almost any public place you go vapid brain dead mothers watch their anchor babies behave like Tasmanian Devils. A restaurant has to be pretty upscale not to have them running screaming around the tables. Sorry if I’m insensitive.
Sorry for my earlier rant. My comments are not against individuals or Hispanics in general. I’m frustrated by a cultural invasion in the Southwest fueled in a large part by Illegal immigration. It seems to me that middle class guilt and apathy are destroying our culture and even our sense of history. In 1965 Ted Kennedy said that immigration would not change our demographics (he was probably drunk) His view was generally accepted. Anyone who has ever listened to a multi-level marketing scam knows how a pyrmid scheme works. Well this one is working too well thanks to anchor babies and family re-unification (Doesn’t it seem reasonable to assume that anyone who misses their family so much should just stay at home?).
There are people who view diversity as a religion.
However, I’ve never heard Mexico criticized for lack of ethnic diversity.
I don’t object to the idea of a melting pot that’s always been one of our basic premises ; but diversity implies the oposite of the melting pot theory. I don’t think that there is anything inherently evil about a country with a majority of people with European ancestry, any more than I find fault with other countries with largly homogoneus cultures. I’m certain that we will meet the third world halfway soon, I’m just not looking foreward to it.
