Shatner Sells Own Kidney Stone — Without comment.

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) – Going maybe where no other actor has gone before, “Star Trek” star William Shatner has sold a piece of his body for charity.

Shatner, famed for playing Captain James T. Kirk, commander of the starship U.S.S. Enterprise in the original “Star Trek” TV series, sold his kidney stone to online casino GoldenPalace.Com for $25,000. The money will be donated by Shatner to Habitat for Humanity to build houses for the poor.

But Shatner said it wasn’t easy parting with a kidney stone, even if it had already left his body. He also said he would never sell unless he had visitation rights.

  1. And what equally a nutball of a person would buy it from him?

*Adds to long list of stupid things*

  2. Hmm. I wonder if he considers selling other body generated garbage too.

  3. maria mulford says:

I got some of those I can spare!

  4. Graeme Nimmo says:

You see, things like this is that only seem to further strengthen the stereotype that Americans are daft.

I know for a fact that this isn’t true, I have met many a smart American, but, as I say, things like this don’t exactly put forward the idea of a smart and very intellectual nation.

(Then again, I guess that by me saying this it must strengthen your views that the Brittish are stuck up and think they are “the bee’s knees”, which is clearly not the case.)

  5. site admin says:

Note to Graeme: Shatner is Canadian!!

  6. Graeme Nimmo says:

Oh, ok, I retract that statement then.

My apologies to anyone I may have insulted with that.

  7. RTaylor says:

Passing a large kidney stone is the closest a man can come to experiencing the, “joy”, of birth.

  8. name says:

Did anybody read this line? “The money will be donated by Shatner to Habitat for Humanity to build houses for the poor.”

Good for him. He’s a bit of a nutbar, but he’s turing into a pretty damn funny nutbar.

  9. cliff says:

You know, I can honestly say that for twenty-five large, I’d sell all my kidney stones…

  10. Kent says:

I think it’s a great thing to do – so what if it’s wierd, he’s made $25,000 for a charity – that’s what should be looked at. It would be different if he was selling this sort of thing to support a drug habit – come on people

  11. Thomas says:

The more see Shatner away from a set the more I’m convinced that his portrayal of himself in “Free Enterprise” was accurate.

(For those of you that haven’t seen it I highly recommend it. In that movie, he decides he wants to do a musical production of Shakespeare’s “Julius Caesar” with himself playing every part except Antonia.)

  12. James Hill says:

Denny Crane thinks you’re just jealous that no one wants your kidney stones.

  13. Jim says:

William Shatner is a funny guy. What makes him great is that he can laugh at himself. He knows he’s quirky, and that’s what makes him funny. He doesn’t take himself so seriously.

The real whack-jobs are those at Golden Palace.com, who purchased the stone. At least the money (and an add’l $50,000) went to charity.

  14. Larry says:

    God Bless James T.

Doesn’t he make us Canadians proud, eh?

BTW, I actually tuned in to Boston Legal the other night because a friend told me he was absolutely great on it – He played an entire scene with a cigar stuck in his ear, (which had nothing at all to do with anything) with a straight face-in fact, he is so off the wall my wife and I were -I can’t even think of a word to describe.

Actually, give him some cred, 25K to a good charity is nothing to pass a kidney stone at.

Gotta love it – You go BIll!

  15. Brian says:

    Teeheehee

Gotta love it. I’m so glad as a canadian we have the ability to laugh at ourselves and do silly things. Can you imagine a US president on a comedy show slurping a milkshake so loud the commentator can barely be heard ( This Hour Has 22 Minutes – Mercer and Chretien)

  16. James Hill says:

We had Clinton for 8 years. He was lying so loudly most people believed it. Much funnier.

  17. Sounds The Alarm says:

And Duhbya is proving that republicans can lie even better! His lying FAR exceeds Clintons and he’s been in for only 5+ years.

  18. Pat says:

    James,
At least Clinton’s “lying” didn’t kill people.

But don’t the neo-con’s believe the President has a Constitutional mandate to bull**** the public? Just don’t lie.

  19. John Wofford says:

Hey, any starship captain that can pass a kidney stone and laugh about it is cool. Speaking of starships, the best designed starship has to be Serenity, from the Firefly series. In all my years, Serenity is the only ship I’ve ever seen equipped with a commode.

  20. site admin says:

Commode? On the Enterprise they never took a crap. It was “beamed” directly into space.

  21. James Hill says:

This is where I have to depart from your west coast logic:

I don’t think Bush lied, I think he deliberatly left out key information. If that means he lied to you, that’s fine… but then you have to apply the same logic to every other situation where a leader, regardless of political stripe, left out key information and judge accordingly.

For example, JFK looks like a dud regarding the Cuban Missile Crisis, since we now know he moved our missiles out of Turkey to appease the Russians. Using this logic, we don’t need a blonde and her double D’s to paint JFK as a liar.

That being said, I don’t see JFK or Bush as liars. I see them as manipulating information to get what they need. Bush needed a second front in the middle east to send his “don’t tread on me” message. JFK needed to save face to maintain ties in Europe. They did their job.

This is why the “liar” attacks aren’t swaying the middle: It’s the wrong way to debate what’s going on, because people know that every leader bullshits… it’s only a matter of degrees.

If you’re going to attack Bush, go after his tact… or his motives… or his execution. There’s plenty to get him on. But painting him as a liar just isn’t working.
