New York daily News – January 14, 2006:

He’s a direct descendant of one of America’s wealthiest families, but Alexis du Pont de Bie Sr. says he’s now “literally destitute and homeless” – at least by du Pont standards.

He once had a trust fund worth $7 million, but now it’s worth only $2.7 million – trimming his monthly allowance to $3,000.

“It has not been easy,” de Bie, 62, told the Daily News yesterday. “I think I have just about worn out my welcome with the darling friends who have put up with me. I live from day to day and I survive.”

    Here’s a novel concept – if 3000K a month isn’t a enough – how about getting a job.

  2. Greg says:

I’d be able to live off $3000 a month plenty well, let alone without having to work for it. Cry me a river.

  3. Pat says:

I feel for the guy. There can’t jobs out there for spoiled failures. Can you imagine only being able to afford to eat at McDonald’s and Burger King instead of Joe’s Crab Shack?

  4. RonD says:

McDonald’s and Burger King? That’s two of my three meals each day! 🙂

  5. Zuke says:

I have an idea how he could make some extra allowance money. Sell tickets at $20/pop to sock him square in the nose for being a whiney crybaby spoiled little sh*t! 🙂

  6. Sounds The Alarm says:

Zuke – no way I’d pay $20 just to hit him in the snot locker.

I’d pay $20 to kick him in the balls really hard though.

  7. twdldee says:

join the club, neuvo riche whiner.

If you wanted your trust fund to last longer, your family should have invaded Iraq.

    oops

  8. Greg says:

Steve: It’s plenty for NYC too. I live in Brooklyn and there are respectable places you can get for around $900 in rent, no roommates required. Maybe if he had a family to support, but he’s 62 so one would assume if he had any kids they’re grown and gone. He’s just “destitute” and staying with friends because he doesn’t want to lower his standards of living.

  9. is that pre or post tax. if it is Post tax I would love to have that much a month. Oh well in time, I am only 29 I should be able make that much a month later in life (and later then that more then that)

  10. Janey James says:

Many of the single mums I know would be extatic if they MADE that much in total from the two or three jobs they juggle, and they are supporting a number of children. Hey- we all have our problems.
