Net Humor Dept. This video is cropping up everywhere. It depicts someone’s astonishing computerized Christmas display. Worth watching if only to be thankful you do not live near him/her. (I’m guessing it’s a guy).

found by Ligums, Dybas and others…

  1. Carlos says:

Come on! Tell me you’re not jealous of this guy. Deep down, the inner-geek LOVES it and would kill to have a display like that…admit it JCD!

  2. Rory B. Bellows says:

According to snopes.com, this show’s music is being broadcast on short range FM, so there isn’t sound blasting out of speakers or anything. This video was shot from within a car with the radio on.

Still wouldn’t want to have my bedroom window facing the house from too close though.

  3. Bill says:

Yea I’ve been emailed it a couple of dozen times, NBC’s Today show had a great interview and some better video of the display

  4. Luís Camacho says:

    O______________O

    Have said.

  5. ranron says:

I admit this is awesome. Inspires me to do something like that and heck with the radio, kick @$$ speakers, here we go!

  6. Improbus says:

    Rock on dude! \m/

  7. Zarggg says:

All I can say is… Light show + TSO = FUN

  8. Herbie says:

When I went to Rochester Institute of Technology (Rochester, NY) during the 1980’s, the dorm floor called the Computer Science House had a project that animated Christmas lights called DAMMIT (Digital and Analog Musical Manipulation of Incandescent Technology).

Today, some 20 years later, it is at version 5.1 and documented here: http://www.csh.rit.edu/projects/dammit/ — perhaps one of the CSH grads lives in this house?!

CSH is also know for its computerized soda machine (http://www.csh.rit.edu/projects/drink/).

Agreed — the inner nerd has to love this stuff!

  9. saxking20 says:

The rumor is that it’s the Las Vegas home of the lighting tech from the Sigfried & Roy show who has plenty of time on his hand since he is unemployed at present.

  10. Chris says:

Something like this could easily be done using an ETC board (http://www.etcconnect.com/products/products.asp?88) programmed to the song coming in the MIDI port.

  11. Carlos says:

Update: The Cops shut down his display becasue the cul-de-sac he lived in was being visited way too much and caused car wrecks! So the World’s Greatest Christmas Display is dark…

  12. ~ says:

That guy has seriously too much time on his hands.

It felt like a visual and auditory assault. Watch out for seizures I say.

I think his Christmas spirit needs a small adjustmnet.

  13. Don says:

Trans-Siberian Orchestra, right? But what tune?

  14. gadlaw says:

Just went to a TSO concert a week or so ago. It rocked and this is perfect.

  15. Steven Tate says:

So the cops shut him down becasue he was too popular?

On the bright side, he could probably take it down and set it up again at a new, more public location so more people can enjoy his creativity.

  16. Eric Bardes says:

The guy lived in a Cincinnati Suburb. The Cops didn’t shut him down. He shut himself down after there was an accident on his street. Kudos to him for doing the right thing.

  17. There is a community of computer Christmas enthusiasts that have been doing this for years. I started a website several years ago for this community. You can find all the information you need to do this kind of thing yourself at http://computerchristmas.com.

    Merry Christmas…..

  18. Jon O'Brien says:

The song is called Wizards in Winter by the Trans-Siberian Orchestra

  19. M says:

See TSO on Saturday and this has made my day. (Wouldn’t want to live across the street from this guy’s house though.)

  20. Judy says:

I would love to do that and know how it is done!! Totally awesome!
