The apparent suicide of a woman found hanging from a tree went unreported for hours because passers-by thought the body was a Halloween decoration, authorities said.

The 42-year-old woman used rope to hang herself across the street from some homes on a moderately busy road late Tuesday or early Wednesday, state police said.

The body, suspended about 15 feet above the ground, could be easily seen from passing vehicles.

I don’t think I want to comment on this one.

State police spokesman Cpl. Jeff Oldham and neighbors said people noticed the body at breakfast time Wednesday but dismissed it as a holiday prank. Authorities were called to the scene more than three hours later.

“They thought it was a Halloween decoration,” Fay Glanden, wife of Mayor William Glanden, told The (Wilmington) News Journal.

“It looked like something somebody would have rigged up,” she said.

Maybe it was intended as a decoration, she could have had a really sick sense of humor. Performance art at it’s best.

I once laid around a work for a whole week before any one noticed

    HAHAHAHAHAHA

    Honest mistake.

  5. Richard Mahler says:

Who expects to see someone dangling by their head 15 feet off the ground? … further evidence that people see what they expect to see and tend to deny what they don’t want to believe. If you see someone lying in the street – that makes sense – you yourself could get run over. Unless you have a secret compulsion to do yourself in in a public and spectacular way, you just aren’t tuned in to the possibilities. I’m not into suicide, but I am into reality and details: if a Halloween decoration looks hyper-real, I want a closer look; I don’t think I could be fooled unless the suicide (victim? as the media likes to call it) was dressed as a witch or made up to look like a goul.
