CTV.ca | Apple introduces video, TV-playing iPod
Videos will now be sold alongside songs on Apple’s iTunes Music Store.
Citing a groundbreaking deal with ABC Television Group, Apple chief executive Steve Jobs said the online iTunes store will sell episodes of hit shows “Desperate Housewives” and “Lost” for $1.99 each, making them available the day after they air on television.
“It’s never been done before, where you could buy hit TV shows and buy them online the day after they’re shown,” said Jobs whose other company, Pixar Animation Studios Inc., has a long relationship with ABC’s parent, The Walt Disney Co.
$2 a show to watch network TV. It is to laugh. Still, this thing should sell like hotcakes to the Apple worshippers.
I’m currently off the tech treadmill. I paid $25 for my stereo (plus speakers!) at a garage sell. My second-hand TV doesn’t have the connectors for a video game box.
I’ve long stated that I’ll hop back on the treadmill when I can watch any show ever made, without the commercials, in any language right now for $1. That time is getting nearer.
I’m optimistic that “almost great” shows (e.g. Maximum Bob, Nowhere Man, Cupid, etc.) can then be viable. Right now, the networks control the source of funding. With direct funding from viewers, it’s a whole new game.
An ipod with built in wireless would have made more sence. Portable internet radio? Computerless podcasts downloading?
Recording would be great too..
With a 48khz quality signal and xlr Jacks, anyone in radio or the media would embrace it.
A Firewire port would be great too, think video recording, easy storage..
I have a 20 gig iPod, which I use to listen to music, and to transfer files between computers. I don’t watch TV much, though my wife does. I personally can’t understand why someone would pay $2 to watch a TV program on a tiny screen. To top it off, they removed the accessory connector on the top of the iPod, which will keep add-on accessories like the iTrip from operating. Also, thinner is not necessarily better. From reports on iLounge.com, there have been a rash of iPod nanos that have broken in users pockets, which probably has never happened with an 4G iPod or Mini.
That said, the bigger color screen is nice, and is probably easier to read than the older 4G iPods with color.
ipods, ipods, and more new ipods. when are they just going to make one ipod like they make cars. not even cars or anything on this planet updates as quickly. playstation 1 came out in 1996, and playstation 2 came out in 2000. get it 4 years later not 4 months later like the ipod is doing. those ipod administrators are just a bunch of thieves saying “hey lets make an ipod every 2 or 3 months so those losers who dont have jobs like us will definetly buy them”. they dont care about us all they care about is thereselves. I have an ipod 20gig and then 15 days after i brought it the ipod color came out. I was like darn why didnt I just wait a couple days later. And now a 30 gig ipod with pictures and video comes out. what is wrong with these people?? until an ipod that does my chores and wipes my as* comes out im not buying another one. its a complete waste of time.
