A Certain Look at the Future

Xinhua – English — When they start shouting “It’s NOT out of control!” then something is up. Fact is, nobody knows what is going on. Dare I call it SARS II? Luckily it is supposedly winding down. We’ll see.

An under-reported story.

OTTAWA, Oct. 3 (Xinhua) — Two more residents of a Toronto nursing home have succumbed to an unidentified illness, bringing the death toll to six since its outbreak was reported a week ago, local medics said Monday.

Two women, aged 95 and 79, were both residents of the Seven Oaks Home for the Aged located at the east end of Canada’s big gestcity of Toronto, medical officer David McKeown told reporters.

There are 68 residents, eight employees and three visitors falling sick, among them 30 being hospitalized, Mckeown said.

The officer also assured the public that the situation was not out of control.

  1. Parallax Abstraction says:

They have already determined that it is not SARS, Avian Flu and another Flu strain. The symptoms and contagious attributes are not close to any of these. They are still determining what it is, but have also pointed out that most of the people succumbing to this are very elderly and have weakened immune systems. They say this could just be a new flu strain that could be relatively harmless to those with stronger immune systems. The virus has also not spread beyond this one nursing home. Hopefully they can figure it out.

  2. Embedded says:

Actually SARS was over rated. I was in Toronto while it was on and all things were empty.

The public health community did full isolation and a few of my friends were quarantined.

The scare was vastly overrated! Probably why the public health authorities answered a reporters question of “was it out of control” with a prompt no instead of turning the question as they should have to “is it anything that the public should be worrying about?”

As you know the Skull and Bones does not run Canada.

  3. Pat says:

Four more died today. That brings the total to 10 people.

  4. Teyecoon says:

It’s called OLD AGE. These are hardly numbers that create any meaningful reason to be concerned or even mention. I guess talking about flu strains is just the trendy thing to do today.

  5. Eideard says:

The death toll is up to 16, today, Wednesday — and the TV Talking Heads are still saying it’s winding down. They’re just running out of patients.

  6. Eideard says:

A public health physician from Toronto just identified the illness as Legionnaires Disease. They were fooled by false negatives on urinalysis. Tissue samples from autopsies tested positive from LD, today.
