Taipei Times — Read this story and see if you can detect a slant in the reporting. Very amusing.

Meanwhile, newspapers in the territory yesterday slammed Chinese tourists who visited the park on on Monday for smoking in nonsmoking areas, going barefoot and letting their children urinate in public.

The Apple Daily described the behavior of mainland tourists as “disgraceful” while acknowledging that they “brought good business” to the park.

The park estimated that about a third of its 16,000 visitors on Monday were from China.

The Ming Pao Daily reported yesterday that Chinese visitors disregarded the park’s rules and smoked cigarettes in restaurants and other nonsmoking areas.

It ran a photo showing a woman in a Minnie Mouse cap smoking in an open area.

The newspaper carried another photograph showing a woman from Guangdong Province helping a young child loosen his trousers to urinate beside a flower bed.

The Apple Daily had a similar photograph of a child urinating near one of the park’s restaurants and another shot of four mainland women resting on the ground barefoot.

A cleaner at the park complained that there were more cigarette butts to pick up on Monday compared to pre-opening rehearsal days, when visitors were mostly Hong Kong residents, the report said.

I see the similar behavior in other Chinatowns . Most of this Chinese are from the countryside believes that it is ok to be casual.

Have you seen Oakland’s Chinatown lately? … It is darn falling apart due to the on-rush of Chinese immigrants who are so “country” that it is a breeding ground for TB. … But don’t tell the leaders of Chinatown about it . … They are too busy taking money from the Oakland’s government. …
    That is another story.

Sounds a lot like Oktoberfest, except the people are puking instead of smoking cigarettes.

Now that I quit smoking I can spend more money on gas, or I could give a charity to the recent natural disaster. What was it? Tornado? Flooding? Drought? It’s hard to keep track anymore. Thanks alot, Rockefeller.

That reminds me of an old joke: Why aren’t there any amusement parks in China? No one is tall enough to go on the cool rides!

  4. Drew McNulty says:

My brother went there during one of the preview days. Just like the other Disneylands, only much smaller. Insert small Asian jokes here.

I think part of the mock outrage is due to the contrast with nearby Tokyo Disneyland, which is one of the cleanest amusement parks around.

  5. Ima Fish says:

MEH, do me a favor and define “casual.” I’m sort of confused by its use. Thanks!

  6. MEH says:

“Casual.” is spitting on the sidewalks or floor with sound effects. … Picking their noses in public. … Should I go on? … Nahhhh!

I was at the Hong Kong Disneyland
It was okay except it was really hot
And then all these mainland Chinese men started pealing off their wifebeaters
And then I saw a little boy defecate in the flower bed
The mailand women were really noisy and they should use deodorant
My little cousin who is 6 years old got sick from all the cigarette smoke
There was smoke everywhere and this was Disneyland!
A rumour among the non-mainlanders spread warning us not to drink from the drinking fountain
There were many sightings of mainland mothers lifting their kids up to the fountains to pee
We were warned to only drink bottled or canned drinks
Maybe Disney is behind this all along to force us to pay for expensive drinks
