HowardForums: Your Mobile Phone Community & Resource – Shoey’s i398 Monster Pack v1 (id est The Final Version) — One of my readers in Brazil turned me on to this phone patch that I mentioned on the TWiT podcast. It turns a stock Moto e398 phone into an iTunes phone with a firmware swap. They are now working on cracking the 25 song limit. FYI.

Nice, looks like you can buy an e398 on ebay for around $200 after shipping. Not bad when you consider that a ROKR will cost you $250 with a 2 year contract.
You can buy a Motorola E398 on http://www.myworldphone.com for $180. I bought mine there a while ago and absolutely loved it until I accidentally killed the screen (it was my fault, the phone is very sturdy). Also you can buy a black E398 and a silver E398 and switch the covers. This way you get a ROKR (white casing, silver band on the outside) and a ROKR Goth (black casing, red band) as I like to call it.
This is sooo old news. I read this way before we even knew the iTunes phone was coming out. Just looking at the new phone tells you it’s a reskinned E398. Many people are not impressed with this new phone from what I’ve read around the web.
Went to the site “howard forums….” seams like a real underground afair, kind of like hacking TiVo. Personnally if its that tough I don’t have the time to do it.
My one complaint about the phone besides aesthetics is that you can’t buy songs from the itunes store. I think that is THE biggest drawback. How convenient it would be to buy songs on a phone, well not necessarily a phone but on a network using a portable device.
I hope Apple comes out with an ipod which can connect to a network in order to purchase songs – that would rule. There would be no computer necessary. But that would involve subscriptions cause the music could get lost or not have a way out of the phone or memory card.
Anyway, the hack was expected.
The ROKR is $99 after rebates and a 2 year contract at Amazon (Sept 14-21).
This phone is mediocre even if it was designed by Motorola because it is associated with Apple I wanted to be AMAZED.
actually, the thread you really want is this one http://howardforums.com/showthread.php?t=722205
the one you linked to i the working version of the “beta” firmware for the rokr. (which I run on my e398 btw) the link I posted is about the effort to crack the retail version of the flash/flex which is proving difficult due to some hardware key that is present in the rokr, something which has never before been seen in a motorola phone.
Any word as to the iTunes software can be added onto other Motorola phones…say the V551?
i need the modem software
i have e398.i flaşh with rocker e1 version.but i can’t use itunes.how can i crack ıt?
